Small is Beautiful: The Miniature Art Museum
"Enjoy art on a different scale in the heart of NYC! Small Is Beautiful is the first museum entirely devoted to the tiny yet vast world of miniature art. Miniature art helps us better apprehend and understand the world by reducing its scales; the 32 artists on display contribute to this in a poetic way. Their tiny artworks make us laugh, feel awe-inspired, and ponder the nuances of our own regular-sized world. If you've heard of the #MiniatureArt hashtag on social media, the Miniature Art Museum: Small Is Beautiful is the perfect opportunity to experience the tiny life-size version. Excellent! One of the better museums I've been to in NYC, and I've been to quite a few. Ticket is not too overpriced for NYC and I would say worth the price. Know that if you're planning to get the ticket that includes the gift, you'll get either a free poster or tote bag. A good variety of exhibitions, all focused around the miniature figure theme, so you'll be spending a good amount of time looking around! Plenty of really visually appealing and detailed pieces, along with some incredibly impressive ones, like the ones by David A. Lindon. The gift shop was pretty standard, but also included the option to buy miniature art pieces from various artists for a lot of money hundreds to thousands. Would overall recommend!
I visited with low expectations and was blown away. There are so many displays from various artists, each one so fascinating and unique. We ended up staying for 2 hours! This is a amazing museum that people of all ages can enjoy.
Kids and adults of all ages can have a great time in this museum. With a collection of various artists who create miniatures. Each artist has thier own style and all are delightfully small. There is also a simple treasure hunt to keep you engaged while roaming the different levels of the museum. Ticket price is reasonable and you can expect to spend here about 1 to 2 hours, suitable for most kids' attention span. Restrooms and a small souvenir shop are on site.
What a great concept! Loved the different artists and their work. Amazed at how small things were along with the level of detail. Unbelievable! I'd recommend as an easy afternoon stroll through, and they had a video with a few of the artists to see the thought process and how they designed the exhibits.
I gave this 3 stars because it was average/OK; not bad but not great either. My friends and I thought this was mostly more of a craft exhibit rather than an art exhibit; there was a wide range of talent and smallness on display. Some things were barely more than dioramas made with off the shelf model railroad tiny people and candy, but others were really amazing and imaginative. It’s worth a visit if you like the idea of tiny arts and crafts.
“Woahhh…” pretty cool concept and place. I saw pretty much everything and it took me about 45 min to complete the lap around. And honestly the work it takes to put them together is incredible. But thank god this is a pop up, only because the price is outrageously expensive. $30 on the LOW END for anybody to enter? What happened to NYC discounts? And for only 45 minutes, and that includes me watching 15 min of some videos they had. I had much higher expectations but it was without a doubt very cool the concept. Only wish there was more tiny things to look at, and maybe a discount. But it was worth it, so in total 3/5 stars
The artists' work was amazing. Absolutely incredible exhibition showcasing supremely talented miniature- focused artists. I just wish the display cases were cleaner. The smudges on every one detracts from being able to see the incredible details of each piece - I kept logging onto Instagram to see pics. Same with the exhibit's hand help microscopes; they were smudged and therefore useless.
I highly recommend this exhibit if you enjoy art that takes a lot of skill and creativity! The art was incredible, and there was a great range from the traditional to the very unexpected. My family and I also really appreciated the short scavenger hunt that encouraged us to be observant! So glad I went.
Fun and impressive gallery! The attention to detail for this art is incredible. Plenty of rings and different artists to explore and go at your own pace, which for us to 45m-1 hour. The very beginning and the very end of the exhibit was my favorites. Note: there are stairs to see the entire exhibit. Enjoy!
Really cute pop up! I was surprised to see so many pieces of art. There are dioramas, origami, sculptures, shadow art… My favorite is the last few pieces where the artist is working at such a small scale that he learned to slow his heartbeat so that he could work between heartbeats for a steady hand. It might seem pricey for a pop up museum, but I definitely spent a good amount of time in there. It’s extremely delightful.
