They call this place fast casual.  I wouldn't go that far.  It's about 1 mm past fast food.  

That said, the burgers are good, flavorful and exceedingly hi cal.  Probably 75/25 beef.

They offer a number of unique topping complications.  I like their thin cut fries.

Try it out, you may like it.  I did.

The only fast food place I will eat at. The burgers are incredible but of course I always pretend I'm going to be healthy and get the grilled chicken. You can have so many fresh toppings added for no extra cost. It's a must to get a side of the fried green beans and carrots or the smash fries with olive oil and rosemary

Rare for me to give a restaurant a five star but I was thoroughly impressed. The menu was unique and affordable, and even had meatless options which was refreshing for a place named for smashing burgers. Fast and friendly service as well, combined with fries I've never experienced anywhere else. Will be back.

Smashburger is one of the best burger places in town, they have great fresh burgers, a small selection of beers and wine in bottles, great hand made shakes, and the Smashfries are amazing. If you are not into burgers they also make each menu item with Chicken, Turkey, or Black bean, as an alternative. No outside seating, no drive thru, parking lot is shared with other businesses in the strip mall, but I've never had a problem getting a spot. I recommend you give it a try!

Have really missed smashburger in Ankeny, but maybe better it is gone. Burgers quality was still pretty good, but boy have they shrunk the size,but not the price! Still like them,but won't be rushing back
