Loved Smolik's!  So great to run across fantastic BBQ in an off the beaten path small town. Bonus to living in Texas!  The ribs are ridiculous-good!  Great moist brisket.  Best braised cabbage ever....teach me to make it!  Super friendly attentive staff.  WORTH THE STOP and we will be back EVERY trip south!

Maybe we caught them on a down day, or Texas Monthly was there on a good day, but they aren't top 50 in my book.  Pork ribs were good, brisket was average, sausage was okay.  Let's just say the bread was the best of the side dishes. Service was polite, but SLOW.  I've never ordered BBQ and had to wait 20 minutes for it to be delivered to my table.  I've waited in line before, but not AFTER ordering.  Average BBQ priced a bit higher than it should be.

I ordered the lean brisket and sausage plate. The brisket was tender with just the right amount of smoke. The sausage was excellent. There are a number different sides available on their menu. I had the brased cabbage and fried okra and both were good.

It was eh. It wasn't bad, but surprised it made it to the top 50 in Texas Monthly, which they're pretty proud of when you see the advertisements everywhere. If you've been to the Rudy's chain in the San Antonio-New Braunfels area, I'd say it's similar. It's a bit gimmick-y. I got the brisket, sausage, and pork ribs plate with two sides. I didn't see a smoke ring on the brisket or the pork ribs and the sausage seemed a bit produced. I'm not sure if any of it was actually smoked, but it could have been wrapped in foil and put in the oven for awhile was my takeaway. Again, not bad, but not great like some of the places in the top 50 (go to Mueller's if you want life changing). But maybe I just happened to go on an off day? The pork ribs did have potential and have a good taste. Give them a try if my suggestion.

Great food, tender pork ribs and brisket. Rolls  are great.  Be ready to wait to order. Be ready to wait to get your food.  I understand the wait to order, but it seems like it took quite a while to get our barbecue sandwiches and a brisket and ribs plate since it's already cooked. Desserts are fantastic.  I recommend as long as you are not in a  hurry.
