a mainstay of the food cart scene downtown is the SoHo Halal Guy—this cart serves up a variety of sandwiches, meat + rice platter, and other eats. brightly lit tiny cart is located on Broadway and Houston St—serving food to area workers, residents, and tourists from day to late night. the food is made with care, but doesn’t take tons of time if you’re in a rush. only ordered meat + rice platters here over the years and have always been satisfied with the ample servings. solid spot for Middle Eastern styled meat over rice to-go. ordered the chicken over rice is well-seasoned. the rice is flavorful. typically i get both the white sauce & hot sauce on top. the chicken over rice is $7 + tip staff is quick and efficient. sometimes service is gruff. overall, if you are looking for lunch or dinner to go and that can be made quickly then this food cart will meet your expectations.
I've seen pictures online it looks like he make Good plates but I'm not to happy about mines he probably don't like me
Nice and flavourful chicken and lamb combo plate, white and hot sauce was good too. The rice tasted good and nicely prepared not dry. If you need a snack, you won't beat the price of $8. Guy is nice and friendly too.

I live nearby and every time we get the chicken and rice dish, my husband and I look at each other and say, “how is this SO good?”. The best deal in soho. Really incredible flavors and no other halal place that we’ve tried comes close. The guy who runs it is incredibly kind and always gives a warm hello even when we’re just passing by. It’s sometimes hard to understand each other when it’s loud or his English isn’t perfect, but this dude wants to make you happy. SO lucky to have this place in the neighborhood!!!
Great food, my girlfriend and I really enjoyed the lamb with chicken over rice mix
I work near this cart and it's a classic. The guy who runs it is very nice and cheerful. It's clean. It's reasonably priced. And it's always there, on the corner, providing good food and a bright light on a sometimes scary-feeling section of Houston St., especially when you're walking to the subway late at night. I'm pretty boring and order the chicken over rice, with all the sauces, every time I go. It's exactly what you want after a long day of work or a night out. It's an excellent example of NYC street food, and I highly recommend it.
