Story

The Church was originally chartered in 1959 and was known as First Methodist Church of Solon. In 1961, the Church purchased the property at the corner of SOM Center and Cannon Roads. Ground for the building was broken on March 22, 1964 and the first service was held on December 13, 1964.

In 1968, with the merger of the Evangelical United Brethren and the Methodist denominations, the Church became the Solon United Methodist Church.

After outgrowing the Catholic mannerisms and tiring of an unattached congregation. We set out to find a church to inspire a sense of worship we were longing for. We went church shopping, not being prejudice to any particular denomination. Then we happened on Solon United Methodist Church. We noticed it's lovely presence on a corner close to our home.

When we walked in to attend our first service, we were greeted with an atmosphere filled with the Holy Spirt & warm welcoming. We attended the contemporary worship service (there is also a traditional service) with the Spirit Fire Praise Band. All I can say is WOW! These folks are serious about making the worship music fill your soul to the fullest. Paster Scott then talked to the congregation as if having a one-on-one conversation with you. His passion for the Lord and his congregation is very apparent in his emotion-filled sermons. 

We attended their fellowship afterward and were approached by many of the members welcoming us with friendly smiles. They went out of their way to make us feel like friends without overdoing it to the extent of feeling insincere. We walked out that Sunday knowing this was what we were looking for. 

We then came to realize that Trinity Christian Church shares the UMC space. It is a great feeling knowing that diversity is accepted and embraced. As we left our first service, the Trinity congregation was arriving and were just as delightful as the UMC congregation. This is yet another gift of the Spirit we experienced that day and still do today!

I encourage you to come and experience Solon United Methodist Church. You will be touched, inspired, and satisfied with your search for the Lord. It's all here, traditional, contemporary, united in diversity and in Spirit!!!!
