Family Court is terrible. Horrible. There's is a defined bias in regards to domestically victimized women and children. It's a male dominated judicial panel that labels victimized mothers as liars and alienators. Their blatant refusal to protect victimized women and children is placing victims in terrible situations. There is also a defined prejudice against anyone that hasn't the money for legal representation. An abused woman sharing children with their abuser whom hasn't the financial means for representation is in a terrible position fighting for her and her children's victim and civil rights. She is at their mercy and in a horrific situation. I've been a victims advocate for 18 years as well as a mother and domestic violence victim/ survivor. I've seen what has transpired in this courthouse over the years and what I'm witnessing currently in the Somerset County courthouse's family court is absolutely unacceptable.
I received a summons for jury duty and spent a morning sitting in the courtroom. The cases were all resolved or postponed and nobody had to listen to any cases. The Courthouse is actually a very beautiful building!
Only 2 handicap parking available!! Figured a courthouse would have more handicap parking. Getting in and back out was reasonably good! Glad I don't visit the Somerset County Court house often!!!
The bathrooms are clean and the dome is pretty. Security seems a bit lax.
As far as today goes it was a pretty nice visit . People helped me out with what I needed help with
Very nice looking courthouse.
The family court system here operates in a "shoot the messenger” style biased judgement with firm misogynistic, unconstitutional rulings, removing custody from mothers and awarding it to the allegedly abusive father. This family court is nothing shy of a hostile environment at least in regards to my experience with one judge in particular, a judge whom a handful of years ago campaigned on the promise of protecting families... Unfortunately his promise wasn't extended to victimized women and children. I cannot help but think of how beneficial it would be for victims to to acknowledged, believed and understood in family court if judges and court actors dealing with domestic abuse were required to be trained and certified in all aspects of domestic abuse before ruling on trials laced with domestic violence. There is an abundance of empirical data available online that has been produced validating the growing chorus of distress of the majority of broken families, yet the concern is not present. I've been continuously and consistently treated as a second class citizen and worse. Not having the financial means for representation should not initiate bad behavior from the family court. The constitution of the United States of America protects citizen rights INCLUDING DUE PROCESS RIGHTS as defined in the 4th, 5th and 14th amendments. I urge Somerset County's Family Court System to do better.
