When looking at a school, I have three criteria: a) the quality of the education, b) the helpfulness and accessibility of the faculty, and c) the character of the social community. I am glad to say that Soundview succeeded at all three. For the first time, I actually became excited about my education. The school is also very dedicated to the arts. We have music and art electives that meet daily, and the teachers are skillful and enthusiastic. In terms of the community, I met some great people at Soundview, many of whom are my closest friends. There is a strong sense of community on campus—not surprising considering there are roughly sixty people in the entire school. Peers of all grades can talk to each other and make friends. There's also a kinship between teachers and students. These relationships last even when students graduate. The administration is inviting and understanding. Mrs. Ivanyi has been especially encouraging and flexible throughout my time at Soundview. Since I was a fencer, and thus didn't need the gym requirement, she allowed me take the Friday gym period to catch up on homework or go to the city for fencing practice. I would finally like to note that I will be heading off to Vassar College in the fall. Many thanks to Soundview Prep for preparing me for such a prestigious school.

I went to Soundview for four years. I graduated last summer. Being at Soundview was one of the best experiences of my life. This school has the most caring and thoughtful teachers that I've ever met (and my mom is a teacher so I've grown up around teachers). The music and art programs here are incredible. I came into music class in 9th grade with no confidence at all and left in 12th grade singing on a song in front of the whole school. This is a school where you won't fall through the cracks. They do a great job in preparing you for college. Honestly if there is one thing you could take from reading this review is that I didn't enjoy going to school before Soundview. Soundview made school fun and gave me a safe and happy place to go to.

Soundview Preparatory School is a place where students can feel free to be themselves. Where they can improve their academic studies in a safe community of people who are both intelligent and kind. What keeps the Soundview community so closely knit is easily Assistant head of school Ms. Ivanyi. She goes out of her way to make sure that new students feel included and that all the students support one another. Soundview is a place for dedicated students are comfortable to be themselves and capable of reaching their academic potential.

Save yourself the heartache and don't even consider sending your child to Soundview. It scares me that this "prep school" is still in business. Yes, that's what it is, a business. And what a horribly run, corrupt business it is. I graduated from high school a few years ago (not from Soundview!) and still talk to former classmates about what a terrible joke this place is. Many of the teachers are mean, petty people who will make your life miserable and harass you if they don't like you, and nothing can be done about it. Not to mention most of them can barely teach. Soundview likes to say it's good for students who need an "alternative" education but the truth is that Soundview is extremely unequipped to deal with kids who need extra attention, which unfortunately is much of the student body. They desperately need a school counselor. In fact, I would say all of the administration and most of the faculty have no idea how kids/teenagers act or think. I was completely unprepared for college after wasting most of my high school years at this place. I beg you not to be fooled by the sociopath Mary Ivanyi's act and avoid giving your hard earned money to this ridiculous excuse for a school. SAY NO TO SOUNDVIEW! Edit, 10 months later: Nice job, you guys. You got your teachers, students, and even parents to write eight glowing 5-star reviews for you, within a span of about 2 months, just a few months after I posted mine. What a coincidence! Also, I heard you finally got a school counselor. Congrats! Too bad she has no confidentiality policy, and tells Ms. Ivanyi everything that students divulge. That's what I've heard, anyway. Now all Soundview needs is a real nurse (who isn't an emotionally abused science teacher; so glad to hear she got out of there), and they might just be well on their way to becoming a real school!

As a teacher at Soundview I find it is the students who make this school special. They are interested and engaged in classes and have a thirst for knowledge. It is a place to teach where the brilliance of your students push you to "do more" and "learn more." Ms. Ivanyi as an administrator is highly supportive to the teachers and students in fostering academic rigor and a comfortable environment in which to learn.
