Story

The Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is housed in an 1851 two-story brick mansion owned by recording artist John Mellencamp. It is a Greek revivalist style with Italian details on the porches. The house has a unique history and has changed little over the years. The Art Center has taken care to keep the home-feeling of the house while serving as an Art Center.

The Art Center is open noon to five Wednesday and Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday or by appointment. If you are out of town and drop by when the Art Center is not open, you may call the numbers posted in the window and might possibly get someone to open for you. The Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is located off Highway 11 (Ewing Street) in Rockford. Rockford is located just north of Seymour's city limit. Look for SICA's sign on the west side of the highway across from the little white church.

If you are driving on I-65, use the Seymour-Jonesville exit. Drive south on Highway 11 approximately three miles. After you cross the White River you will come to a stop light. Just after the stop light start looking to the right for the SICA sign. If you pass the "Welcome to Seymour" sign, you have gone too far!

We love visitors, so please stop by!
You are always welcome at SICA!

I was lucky to see the Mellencamp art show...three talented generations! Sean was so kind and informative. You can linger over all the artists' work. It is a unique location as well, so make the drive.
Great collection and friendly staff and members. We visited a special exhibit of work by John Mellencamp, Marilyn Mellencamp, and Speck Mellencamp. The selection was impressive, and prices for those who decide to buy are below market. The love of staff and volunteers shines through extra points for feeding a local outdoor cat.
This is such a great resource for our community. We do understand they need to pay their educators and to keep the property maintained, but it would be nice if they offered some activities at cheaper rates. We would be able to show more support if it wasn't so expensive to have 2 or 3 kids enrolled in something. *We took a basket weaving class and there was 0 information about the history of basket weaving. Just, 'Hey, Im a basket weaver. weave this paper between this plastic...' I can do better art classes at home for much cheaper.
I enjoy this place so much , but right now they doing some renovation. Not many artists up and all the Mellencamp paintings have been returned to their owner.
From art lessons and youth art camp, pottery studio to print shop, with live music on Friday nights in the summer, you need to see this not-so-hidden gem!
