About

In 1978, a legend was created. Accumulating millions of fans over the years, an unknown Texas ranch soon became world-renowned. The series was "Dallas," the family the Ewings, and the ranch that was home to it all was Southfork.

Story

History at Southfork began in 1978, when Lorimar Productions chose the North Texas showplace as the site for the CBS-TV series "Dallas". The hit series, which counted millions of viewers across the United States and in 95 foreign countries as fans, was originally broadcast in the United States from 1978 to 1991. The series continues to be broadcast in syndication and still is in first-run status in many countries around the world. Because of the ranch's high profile on television, the beautiful white mansion, the pool, the barns and surroundings quickly became a tourist mecca.

The original owner of the ranch and his family were actually in residence at Southfork as the filming began. When requests for private parties began to pour in, tents were erected and a small party pavilion was built to accommodate these types of events. However, tourism finally took its toll on the family, as it became increasingly hard to live privately in what had become Dallas' leading visitor attraction.

In 1985, Southfork became strictly a tourist attraction and event location. The mansion was opened to the public for the first time. A 63,000 square foot conference and event center was built to accommodate several thousand people for special events and functions. A rodeo arena, which was originally constructed for the filming of "Dallas" rodeos, began to host open competition rodeos as well as private "showdeos."

In June of 1992, Mr. Rex Maughan, a successful Arizona businessman with extensive company operations in Texas, purchased the ranch. Since Mr. Maughan's purchase, business has continued to grow. Tourists are still attracted to the nostalgia of "Dallas" and Southfork's unique facilities have created an internationally respected conference and event center for meeting planners.

Today, Southfork continues to welcome visitors from around the world, who come to see where "Dallas" was filmed and to experience the lifestyle made famous by the Ewings.

Whether you are an individual traveler or part of a group tour, Southfork is open daily, 'year round for guided tours of the ranch. Tour the famed Ewing Mansion and re-live exciting moments from the series in the "Dallas Legends" exhibit, featuring an exciting array of memorabilia from the series.

I was quite young when they showed the TV series. It was one of the most viewed TV shows in our family. After so many years, finding the same house at the same condition was thrilling for me. The entire property is kept and maintained well for the visitors. It will never fail satisfy the thirst of seeing their favorite TV show set of the people coming from that generation. I loved my time there. And my $15 was worth spending.

Dallas & Southfork ranch will be part of tv audience history for many more years to come. While my wife and I were going through the ranch in a tractor shuttle and later entered the main building, the Ewing family members were as if moving around us .....Larry Hagman, Linda Gray, Patrick Duffy, Victoria Principal all came alive in frames. Although indoor shoots were mostly done in California (according to the guides/staffs), the home setting is still fabulous. Simply loved it!

If you loved the TV show Dallas then this is a place you must visit. So much history of the tv show. The tour guides are awesome. They are very friendly and make you feel like you are a real guest of the Ewings.

Nice place to visit. I took a fan of the show with me as I have never seen the show. The history of the show given on the tour was still very interesting. Everything including the restrooms were very clean. The only thing I noticed that could be improved would be more done for visitors who are wheelchair bound. There is much to see upstairs in the main house, but no elevator. It would be nice for them to at least have photo albums available of the rooms upstairs and views from the balcony to share the experience with those who cannot go upstairs. I felt bad for a gentleman who basically got left behind because he couldn't access upstairs. My dad was in a wheelchair and if he ever visited there I would have wanted him to enjoy the experience as much as possible.

It was nice. Good place for events and just to see the place. Thought the main house would've been bigger.
