We went to Southside expecting more.
The idea of ordering and finding your own table is novel, but the food was just okay. The fish and chips were overly breaded and a bit greasy and the clam strips had the same feel. The fries taste institutional and nothing that stands out. 
I don't mind the older decor, as a matter of fact I find it charming; in a land of snootiness, but they could still use a major renovation in the same style without losing its character.
They would have earned three stars, but we had to ask for tartar sauce- despite two orders of fish and chips; they forgot our sides of corn, and forgot to give us a side of garlic bread. 
All in all, I know this place is a local landmark and you should go to experience it, but the food; at least on the day we went was mediocre.

Called for a take out order at 7:30 for a 8:30 pickup. The line to order was almost out the door. I was told to go to the end of the counter which someone took my money and said she would call my number when it was up. While waiting I was entertained by the number of people who were complaining about the wait time and bad soup. I was getting nervous. By 9:00 I was fed up waiting and asked where my order was. It was sitting there for 15 minutes and no one called my number. Don't order crab legs if you don't have a shell cracker at home because they don't give you one. The Lobster Bisque was tasteless and the Fried Clams tasted like rubber. Horrible experience all around and would not recommend this place.

Have been going to SOUTHSIDE for at least 25 yrs + and couldn't believe our LAST experience there. Ordered baked clams and Linguine & Clam Sauce. Clams weren't as good as usual and my Dish was inedible!!! Clam sauce was like dishwater & some green spice that was unidentifiable. Checked the Web for changes to SOUTHSIDE & found out that it was sold. Another sign was that on Sundays the Parking Lot was FULL - usually. That Sunday had 3 cars in the Lot & We perhaps thought it was closed. It was opened - although we made up the 3 tables that were taken. Soon as we tasted the Dishes - we unfortunately knew why. So SAD this Fabulous Place was now so BAD. Gave it 1 Star for memories.

Amazing service! TRULY great hospitality! Made me a gluten free meal and seafood was super fresh!!!! 5 star!!!

I decided to try this place out since it was closer to home; it was between this place and red lobster. Wow, what a mistake choosing this place. How do they expect anyone to eat a lobster tail and skirt steak with cheap plastic knife and fork?! The lobster bisque had no shred of lobster and it was loaded with too much sherry. My steak was overcooked, making it even harder to cut through it. The lobster tail had a good flavor, but came with NO BUTTER for dipping! The dish was served on a PLASTIC plate placed on a lunch tray. What are we 5 years old?! 

I should've gone to red lobster instead.

Way too expensive for a cheap experience.
