In today's world there are many good BBQ places, and this is one of them. What makes a place *great* is its history and roots in the community. So many deeply rooted local places are trying to copy their formula (recipes, ambience, presentation, flare, etc) in new territories near and far. Unfortunately, you can't copy the providence that comes with an age old establishment that history has built for you. So, here you will find good BBQ, but it may never live up to the original locations legend. Go to the original Elgin location for that. And hope that an owner is present to make sure you're getting the quality product you expect, not just whatever cut of meat is next on the chopping block.

Brisket and sausage are exceptional about 93% of the time, so good that I don't mind the occasional inconsistency. The sides are standard, nothing really special because the perfectly smoked meat is the star of the show and what could really compete with that anyway?? That mac and cheese is revelatory though, good luck not getting addicted that mysterious creamy decadence!

Been a Southside customer for many years. Ordered at the drive through in Bastrop. Asked the girl if everything was in the bag. She said yes it is. when we got home to eat dinner, the banana pudding I ordered was NOT in the bag. I love the banana pudding. I called and complained. The manager apologized and told me to come and get the 2 puddings and he would also give me my money back. When I went back and got my 2 puddings, the container they normally come in was only half full. I get the banana pudding quit a bit and know just how much comes in an order. I am having a hard time with how I was treated over this isuue.

YUMMY.. If you're passing through Bastrop you must stop and enjoy some bbq. Great food and great place. We'll be back.

Love this place! The Southside Combo and Turkey sandwiches are great for lunch. Employees are super friendly and the restaurant is so clean it looks like just opened up last week.
