Good Comida

Story

The Spanglish Catering Company evolved from our love to cook and work together. We met in a small health spa kitchen in the San Fransisco Bay area and were married in 2002. I was born and raised in the Northern Michigan woods. Vicente was raised on a rural coffee farm in Guerro Mexico before moving to Mexico city. Together we spent a year in Puerto Vallarta Mx. We have tasted our way through 11 Mexican states and much of the U.S. Our food is not wet burrito smothered with tasteless yellow cheese. Our food has evolved over ten years of cooking together, it is bright and flavorful. Our Tamales contain no hydrogenated lard, shortenings or trans fats. Traditional Mexican Food is our starting point but we will bend the rules to make a recipe better. We love to mix in some American ingredients and cooking techniques. We really love what we do and it shows!

The food was good but expensive for what you get and for essentially self-serve. For the amount I paid (and the tip), I should have at least been able to just get up and go, trusting that someone would pick up after me. But I was instructed how to clean up after myself and I struggled to get everything into the overflowing trash bin. I left with sticky hands from smashing down my and others' trash. The restaurant was way too noisy and it was raining so I could not move outside. They need some sound absorbing material. Overall, Spanglish is a cute little offering with good food that has potential. It just needs some upgrades in terms of environment and service; some amenities to match the price.

I thought I'd reviewed this before, but I guess not. I love the Big Burrito with chicken. Owner makes an awesome homemade hot sauce. Great location, though parking can be tough during tourist season (not their fault!). A favorite stop of mine when at the Commons.

The veggie tacos are amazing! So flavorful and packed with fresh veggies. The tamales are very good too if they're available, they go fast! You must try the iced coffee! So good!

Good food and LOTS of it! Cozy atmosphere inside and even better outside on a nice day. Great location, too. The owners and staff obviously cook with love. I especially appreciated that the food is not too spicy, which I can't tolerate well.
