Sparrow Hospital

About

Choose Wisely. Choose Sparrow.

Story

Sparrow has grown to become the region's largest health system, and its diverse range of facilities offer residents some of the most advanced medical technology available in the world. Sparrow has two Lansing campuses, Sparrow Clinton Memorial Hospital in St. Johns, Sparrow Ionia Hospital in Ionia, and an affiliate hospital, Carson City Hospital. The health system has dozens of satellite care centers. Sparrow also offers the Michigan Athletic Club, a 276,000-square-foot facility voted one of the country's top health clubs.

Sparrow's founding dates back to 1896, when the Women's Hospital Association set out to bring critical medical services to Lansing. One doctor and one nurse worked out of a rented house, while the women of the association did everything they could to support operations - including loaning their own household linens when supplies ran low.

In 1910, at a time when the expanding auto industry brought an influx of new families into the area, Edward W. Sparrow - one of Lansing's pioneer developers - donated land on East Michigan Avenue along with a gift of $100,000 to help build a new hospital. The hospital took in its first patients in 1912.

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews. So far we love this place. My wife is going through a very difficult pregnancy and they have been great. We've had 25+ visits combined between Sparrow Ionia, and Sparrow Lansing. Many great people work here.

I was very disappointed by the care I received at Sparrow's Emergency Room (Michigan Avenue). My wait time exceeded 7 hours, I received treatment that was very expensive (and which I deemed inappropriate to my situation), and was discharged without a satisfying diagnosis. I presented my dissatisfaction to Sparrow's Patient Experience and Risk Assessment departments. While they were somewhat sympathetic towards my negative experience, they did not find it fitting to readjust the amount they billed me for what I believe to be notably substandard service. As such, I am currently unable to recommend this hospital. I like having access to a local hospital, and I hope that in the future Sparrow improves their patient care.

My daughter was a shooting victim this summer. The first stages of care were awesome but once she was moved from her first ICU room the care and well being off my daughter went downhill. She was stolen from by a nurse, I had to perform things for my daughter that no mother should have to do for her daughter whose just been shot. She was discharged on August 10, 2017 and had yet to receive any therapy for PTSD among other things. She's had no after care and we are now into October. It's been over 2 months. The care and treatment she received during her stay there after the first 24 hours was appalling. This has always been my choice of hospitals but no more. Many of the people we dealt with seemed as though they looked down on us. This saddens me but I truly hope no other families go through what my daughter and my family endured. Shame on your Sparrow hospital!!!!

I had to wait in the ER for 4 and a half hours but that's understandable... Doctors cannot be held accountable for a long wait time. My nurse and doctor were both very friendly and willing to offer thorough explanations/answer any questions I had regarding my X-rays, diagnosis, and medication.

I took my best friend to the ED with slurred speech, disorientation, and balance issues. Her blood pressure was 220/120.!! They did a ct scan and put her out in the waiting room. Within an hr. the scan was back showing a stroke and 2 blood clots on her brain. They left her in the waiting room for 6 more hours stating they had no rooms with a monitor. They did check her bp, and each time it was higher. Thank God, she did not have another stroke while in the waiting room!! 2 days later, they still have not done her MRI, which was ordered when they got the ct back. I would think twice before I would send anyone with stroke symptoms!!
