I've been to the Kanawha City Department of Vehicle on numerous occasions, and it's just like any other business, you gave to time your visit accordingly. Wait times is typical, unless you arrive on days or times most all other DMVs are closed, the your in for a more than normal long wait. Friendly staff willing to help with any questions, and guide you to the right direction.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. So I went to this DMV on my only day off to renew my driver’s license. I got there at 1.30pm. Checked with the front desk lady if I have all the documents I need so I don’t have to wait in line for nothing. She said I’m good to go. So I waited in line for 3 hours and when I finally got to the window 1 the scumbag lady behind the counter gave me a look and told me I should come another day because I have to apply for a renewal before 3pm since I’m a permanent resident here. I replied that usually I apply at any time and then the DMV calls me when it’s approved. She replied “we are not going to babysit your paperwork”. Well, I wouldn’t let her babysit anything I own cuz she looks like she lives on the street. But anyways, I went to a different worker and he said he’d accept my paperwork after 3pm only this tim because the front desk clerk made a mistake by letting me wait for 3 hours for nothing. He said he’d give me a call when it’s approved. It’s been 2 weeks, I’m still waiting on a call...

Wow... just wow. I read the reviews before I went and took my learners and thought people were just exaggerating. I’ve been in point Pleasants dmv and thought it was bad, but let me tell you, charleston dmv makes their place look like a godsend. 

First, the line. OH GOD THE LINE! It’s unbelievably bad to the point you start dozing off in your chair (if you can even find a chair.) The whole place is filled with people who don’t take showers and smell like my grandmas attic but, anyways. The wait line can be up to 4 hours on my part, and you better have everything before you take off. You leave just one thing at home they’ll bust you for it. 

Secondly, the workers. You can describe these people with one word... “douchebags.” They are so rude, and so hateful that you can’t help but to cuss them out right then and there. They act like your scum, and think there better than you. It is literally the smallest bit of power I’ve seen go to somebody’s head. 

Side note: don’t buy the crappy pretzels either... they suck. 

In conclusively, Please AVOID GOING HERE AT ALL COSTS. The extreme wait line, the crappy workers, and the terrible food makes me want to put a hole in the wall. Go to point Pleasants dmv, I’m sure there a lot better.

Place is always slow. You will usually spend half the day in here. They have,15 Windows and less than half are open

The wait time there is always unbearable. Prepare to spend 1-4 hours depending on what you need. Staff is usually friendly and helpful as long as you are friendly as well.
