This is easily my favorite spot to eat in the mall. Being from NOLA I love home cooked/home style meals and spunkies is it for me! I usually get the catfish and the Mac and cheese is top tier. I’m only in OKC for a limited time due to work travels but Ive been going to spunkies at least once a week for lunch since I’ve been here. Great staff, very friendly and accommodating. If you haven’t been here I hope I have convinced you to give them a try!
We visited on a Friday at noon. I had a fried pork chop with macaroni and cheese, and candied yams. I loved the pork chop and macaroni and cheese. The candied yams had a little too much allspice seasoning for me. But I would definitely eat there again to try more options available. My husband had fried catfish, fried okra, and macaroni and cheese. He liked everything!
We ordered baked chicken, collard greens, and macaroni n cheese. Chicken wasn’t fully cooked, collard greens was salty as ever like they’re trying to give someone high blood pressure. I complained with management the next day and my issue was not resolved. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant. Their reasoning is that’s how all of their chicken look… Health department need to be called. It is not safe to eat uncooked chicken
Definitely not what I expected. I ordered the small fried chicken, which came with 2 sides, and a banana pudding. The yams were delicious, but the chicken was super salty, the mac and cheese taste like they dumped way too much bagged Kraft Mexican cheese in it and where do I begin with the banana pudding. I didn’t even eat it. It went straight into the trash. Look at the picture and you’ll see why. My husband brought the banana pudding back to the counter and asked if he can get one that had fresh bananas and he was told, “They are refrigerated, so they are all like that!” He then asked if he can change it for a different dessert and they responded, “No because you already have it. You would have to purchase another one!” That banana putting been sitting in the refrigerator for days and their customer service was terrible Y’all gotta do better!
They surprised me. The food was really good and the portions were large I’m still haven’t finished my meal. I liked that they offered look aid. I think the lady that took our order was named Aurora, she was fun I told her to call me queen and she played along. Good food, good service so it’s a 10 out of 10 WIN.
I wanted some bbq or soul food and remembered spunkies was open in the mall. I ordered two meals with a total of 4 side's and ate everything. I recommend the fried turkey cutlet 2 side plate. The turkey cutlet was seasoned and breaded perfectly. I will get the 2 turkey cutlet meal next a.k.a turkey chops. I only needed to add a little hot sauce to the collard greens. The chicken gravy & rice was good. Only con is they didn't give me enough gravy ratio. I had way more rice & a salt & pepper packet would have been great. I know to ask for extra gravy next time. I will get it again with anything turkey on the menu like turkey legs & bakes turkey wings! My second meal was the 1 piece fried catfish, yams & mac n cheese. Again a salt and pepper packet was needed for the mac n chesse. The mac n cheese is not the texture of cheesy mac,but its baked so the texture may or may not be the mac n chesse you're use to. Because I got the sweet potato/ yams they were heavy on the spices; that was my second sweet dessert. The kool-aids are super sweet, the ice helps balance. The warm butter sweet rolls are ahhhhhhhhhmazing I ate both of them 1st. The strawberry cake was okay. I got super full. Everything cost me $36 Not exactly grandma's soul food, but definitely your aunt/aunties soul food!
If you're reading this....stop....and just go here. The food was phenomenal. I took a picture of my chicken tenders but my son's wings and BFFs fried pork chop were all delicious. The food and batter are all seasoned so well. The service and people were the sweetest. Just go. You won't regret it.....unless you don't like flavor Food: 5/5
Was trying a few new spots in the Penn Square Food Court and couldn’t resist some Spunkie’s. Delicious soul food that has some all time favorites. I went with the fried okra, mac and cheese, and D’s strawberry cake. All of it delicious and sure to make you full. I have had their BBQ meatballs in the past and would also recommend those. Great to see Soul Food in Penn Square!
Even though it’s in the food court, you won’t be affected by it. The customer service is so wonderful you feel in your own world! The food was DELICIOUS!! I don’t know whose grandma they have back there cooking but she put her feet in it! It’s a yes for me!!! I drove over 20 mins in traffic to get there and it was so worth it!!!Food: 5/5
The chicken was good, the mac and cheese was average, and the mashed potatoes were not good at all. But, what really matters is how poorly the customer service was. I hate to say it but it wasn't successful. I hope it gets better because this restaurant has potential and decent food. Update to the manager: I saw your reply and the issue with the customer service was the kiddos working at the front. The young boy who took my order was standing with his armed folded as of he didn't want to take my order, and when he did he I had to lean over the cabinet to hear him. The young boy who called the order for the food had a bit of an attitude because I didn't know to bring my ticket to get my food. To be honest, I've eaten here before and loved it. Once I got a taste of those fried chicken wings I was hooked and I told so many people to try it out. I hope this helps.
