The physician and his P.A.s are excellent but the non-medical front end staff are really unsympathetic unpleasant and surprisingly ignorant of even the most basic aspects of gastroenterology. They seem to think their job is to prevent the physician from ever having to have any contact with any patients. I hope you never know how uncomfortable it is to have diverticulitis, I've had diverticulitis, kidney stones and my hand was fractured in four places and four impacted wisdom teeth (at different times, this is for comparison purposes) and I'd say diverticulitis was the worst. At any rate it's the most difficult to ignore. The physician was very specific, he told me to call and make an immediate appointment should this ever happen to me (again) and when it did happen again and I called, the people (not so sure they qualify as real human beings) who answered tried to give me appointments in two months. They repeatedly put me on hold, took messages for return calls, never making any attempt to find out if I needed to actually see a physician other than to tell me to go to an emergency room no matter how many times I explained that I have diverticulitis and their boss, the physician himself said I should make an immediate appointment. They couldn't understand someone being at work and not being able to get phone calls, and had never apparently heard of this email thing I was describing, texting was also outside of their wheelhouse. I gutted it out so to speak, and having done some research I found that some gastroenterology researchers think that antibiotics may not be necessary in all diverticulitis cases and a little pain management and prevention via dietary changes is best. Considerable research suggests that emergency room and urgent care visits for diverticulitis are a waste of resources and this sort of thing should be managed in G.I. specialists' offices. The excellence of the physician doesn't mean anything with a cruel and alienating staff like this.

I normally do not fill out reviews, but was shocked at how rude this lady was to me on the phone. I saw Dr. Ramanujam and Erika, the Physician's Assistant, several times and had a lot of contact with his office due to chronic stomach issues. Dr. Ramanajum and Erika were extremely professional, the people at the desk were very friendly, however the nurse that I had to speak to several times, Lynn, was extremely rude. The first time I dealt with her she became very short and snappy after I apparently asked too many questions or something. I have a very busy work schedule, and do not have a job where I can have my phone on me at all times. Therefore, I had to play a little bit of phone tag with the office. The last time she returned my call, I just missed it, so I called her back, immediately. I mentioned something about playing a little phone tag and that I was glad we could finally get in contact. This lady decided to scold me that I didn't pick up and ignored her calls and she did all this work to try to schedule this test the Dr recommended. I told her she was being very rude and I shouldn't have had to explain to her that my job does not allow me to have access to my phone at all times and because I work, i don't and cannot just sit by the phone waiting for it to ring. I'm not sure what makes her time so much more valuable than everyone elses and why she would be more upset about not being able to get ahold of me, when I'm the one suffering. I have my own clientele where I work and even when people don't show up for their appointments, we would never scold someone! I'm getting very tired of some people in the medical industry being able to get away with treating people like garbage. There are tons of people fighting for jobs and if you don't like doing the work, quit, and let someone else that wants to work have the job!!!!
