ER Review: Went here for a friend who had a medical emergency and had an absolutely horrible experience!! They leave at risk psychiatric patients out in the open in the ER. Go to Hamilton General or Juravinski, or if you have a child who is sick, always go to McMaster if you can. Avoid this ER at ALL costs, although inpatient units and clinics are good at this hospital. So much for patient centred care! Waited here for 5 hours! Paramedics and police officers do not have a separate entrance, so the ER waiting room is PACKED with EMS stretchers and at-risk patients.

My son was born at the main campus 5 years ago and the experience was phenomenal. People were kind and attentive. I've broken my hand, tore my calf and ran in with my boy who has having breathing related issues. Again, everyone was excellent. Finally, I'm thoroughly impressed with the mental health facility and am so glad we have an alternative to CAMH. St. Joseph's is another great reason to live in Hamilton.

I took my 89 year old mother there last night. She fractured her hand. We waited 5 hours and left. They took X-rays and know that it is fractured but we have to go back to see a dr. before referring her to the fracture clinic. I understand now why people complain.

It took me several months to finally write a review on my experience at st. joe's hamilton. I was a patient months ago, i went to the emergency directly by myself early morning (as my husband was in the states that time and i have nobody to accompany me). I was 28 weeks pregnant, and my bag of water broke. I wasn't in pain, but there was a pooling of water coming out from me which is an indication of a possible early delivery. As a first time mom, i was nervous and anxious, plus given the situation that i was alone that time. I was interviewed in the ER initially for triaging by a male nurse. I told the nurse the reason why i came to ER and he informed me that I should go to the labor room directly to be assessed by the proper staff. He gave me instructions to which way to the labor room, i don't remember which level it was. I was upset, anxious, but i tried to be calm. I was going to ask him if he could send me via wheelchair or at least send someone with me to accompany me on my to the LR, but i did not. I know i have the right to ask but i don't want to be demanding. I don't know their depertmen's policy, but my concern is that, as a nurse in the ER who received the patient first, it is his responsibility to be compassionate and to ensure the safety of the patient. As a 28 weeker patient with premature rupture of membranes, walking is prohibited or at least to be limited as to prevent further complications or delay the chance of having preterm delivery. I could have delivered my baby somewhere on my way.

Worst experience ever with the Health care system.from triage nurses not listening when you tell them you have paper work to see the X-ray department and wasting time only to tell you "oh sorry theyre closed now" to the doctor who reschedules your appt for the next day and prescribes you pain meds but forgets to fill out the prescription correctly.thanks again for looking so unprofessional.dont you have standards? sad
