I'm very disappointed with the Stayton police department's reaction and response to the crime I reported today, 1/3/2018. Like any morning I woke up and got ready for work, but this morning I walked out to my car to find it had been keyed, very deeply. I of course called to report it, not only for insurance purposes, but also do document it in case it happened again or to anyone else around, as to create a pattern they could follow or something. Anyway, instead of asking me questions to try and determine who, what, when or how, they went straight to and only focused on the why, essentially blaming me, as if I caused some sort of retaliatory action. First off, talking about blaming the victim! Second, there's never any excuse, especially not legally (which is supposed to be their field), for vandalism or any other retaliatory criminal actions. Third, I moved here only a couple of months ago, I don't know anyone and no matter what I may have supposedly done to anger someone else in this short time, it's not at all an acceptable or adult response to vandalise another's property, regardless how slighted they may have felt. And I highly doubt this to be the case, as I've spoken with and looked at no one since I came here, aside from store clerk whom I've only been kind to, as is my nature with everyone. Still, even this I could let go of, but to tell me they essentially aren't going to do anything about it... That they will "recommend" more patrols in the neighborhood... Come on!!! Canvas the block it happened on. Knock on doors, show a police presence. I live on a cul-de-sac, it's very unlikely that it was done by someone outside my very own neighborhood. Likely children being little losers with no concept of money or others belongings and how hard they had to work for them. Do something, at least attempt to even look like you're trying. Worst is, as a major police supporter, I wear shirts with blue lives matter, and thin blue line American flags and the like. I respect them in my encounters with them always, saying good morning with a wave or salute when I see them on my way to work. I've offered assistance when I saw some struggling with a theft suspect at a store downtown. Picked up their dropped flashlight and stood by until the thief was apprehended. But this leaves a very sour taste How much time could it take to knock on doors and have a quick conversation? Is the $1000 I have to pay to fix my car not valuable enough of a crime? This is not a victimless crime here Stayton police! What if it happens again, to anyone nearby, and you could've prevented it by just being present? Just feels like you ought to be ashamed of your utter lack of reaction and response.
