Founded in 1935, the Steamship Historical Society of America is the oldest non-profit organization solely dedicated to preserving and sharing maritime heritage and history. Based at the Ship History Center in Rhode Island, SSHSA has opened their library and collections to the public through research, tours, lectures, and more. Our quarterly magazine PowerShips connects our members as well as enthusiasts worldwide with bright pages of feature articles and news of the shipping world.
The society's membership spans the globe. Learn more about becoming a member and joining our community of shipsters at www.sshsa.org.
SSHSA received multiple grants to begin its education program and create an online repository for its collections. Teachers, students, and the general public can view primary and secondary sources, as well as lessons, articles, and technology integration tools for STEAM and Social Studies subjects.
