Provider repaired porch deck and framing, replaced stair treads. Provider washed, prepped and applied two coats of paint to a 2 1/2 story frame built in about 1900. The house is a contributing structure to the Clifton Historic District and there are restrictions on how work is to be performed. I asked Mike Steilberg for quality work at a fair price. I was clear that I was not interested in the lowest cost job and that's certainly not what I got. He was referred to me by a contractor who does quality work and I knew our standards would be compatible. Work began the week of October 12, 2015 and was completed on December 16,2015. The paint scheme used 6 colors on a Princess Anne style house. It had not been painted for about 13 years but most surfaces were in decent shape. However, one side of the house still had some lead paint which peeling had exposed. Remediation cost about $1750. The wooden deck of the front porch had sagged and the rain gutter no longer drained well. We discovered termite infestation and damage. (I used another vendor for treating against termites.) The cost included jacking up columns, reinforcing some of the deck joists, replacing custom milled trim, milling and replacing tongue-in-groove 5/4" decking. Old weatherstripping was removed from the double front doors and replaced. Aluminum storm sashes and screens were removed so that historic window sashes could be cleaned and painted. The provider replaced the glazing compound on a few of the old windows. Because the new paint colors were significantly darker than the old ones, most surfaces required two finish coats. That increased cost considerably. I watched the painters work and examined their work on most days of the project. They did fine quality work and I was completely satisfied with the finished product. Mike and his painters suggested some modifications in my paint scheme and they were good ones. Mike was there every day to superintend the work and his painters. I made it a point to give good feedback to the painters who seemed genuinely enthusiastic about this challenging job. On most days there were two painters working. During the prep work another two would join them. So, on some days there were as many as four people working. I would recommend this provider to anyone who is interested in quality work, not just the cheapest work.

We had a painter come out and paint several rooms in our home about three years ago. We had concerns from the beginning because we thought they did a pretty poor job removing the old paint job. Then their paint started chipping as soon as the weather got cooler and had progressively deteriorated over the years. Steilberg came in earlier this year and showed us what a HUGE difference good preparation can do for a painting project. We had originally intended for them to paint just one room, but we were so impressed we went ahead and had them paint two more plus our outdoor deck. My wife and I have been recommending Steilberg to ANYONE who will listen!
