I have used Todd Stephens for many different legal reasons over the past ten years. He has handled small business transactions for my company , drafting my will, and recently held my hand during my first home closing. I highly recommend him. He genuinely cared about me and advised me on what was fair and did not nickel and dime me. It's good to have someone you can trust.

I have nothing positive to share about the unethical business practices of Todd Stevens. In fact I filed a formal complaint about him but he talked himself out of it. He encouraged my mother a native Brazilian to appoint himself and his legal partner as Executor of my mother's "estate" but when my mother was dying the final week of her life he visited her in the hospital took her written bank check in the amount of $400 and promised to pay her taxes on her property but never did. When he met me at my mother's funeral in Skokie he told me to find the hard copy of the will and presented me with her death certificate but neglected to tell me my mother "owed" him money on an unpaid legal debt. I was supposed to inherit everything but he was appointed as Executor which means he was fully responsible for paying taxes on the home. I could not find a hard copy of my mother's will and my Schizophrenic father who was not of sound mind could do nothing to help me put my mother's home under my legal name. I am sure my mother's intentions were to allow me to have her home placed under my legal name but Todd Stevens denied me that opportunity and instead held the deed over my own home for over five years. He stated my mother owed him $2500. Todd Stevens insisted the hard copy of the will would help him push the paperwork in court faster but I never found any hard copy in my mother's home just photocopies. I was even locked out of my own home once because I had no idea my mother had changed a few of the locks to our home during my absence so I called Todd Stephens to see if maybe he had been given a copy of my mother's house keys and he retorted SARCASTICALLY to me the following: Are you sure that's your house Diana? I said yes....my mother changed a few of the locks and my cat is inside... He then said:Is your cat waving at you....again are you sure it's your house? I then hired a locksmith and tried to find a hard copy of the will that appointed Todd Stevens as sole executor. I had to hire my own attorney because Todd would not cooperate in fact he seemed all to eager for me to try and sell "my tiny townhouse" his own words for $200,000 even though in 2008 the market dropped and the townhouse I grew up in was not even worth $150,000 if that. Todd Stevens never treated me as an equal in fact he told me that my mother advised him that I was horrible with money and could not be trusted. I actually used to own a lovely condo in Wicker Park but my neighbors harassed me so I ended up selling it in 2008 before the market crashed here in Chicago. End of this story because Todd Stevens would not cooperate and turn the deed over in my name when I did put tenants in my home they would not leave and the city of Chicago could not help me legally evict my tenants who would not leave. Instead I had to ask for free help from the city of Chicago and Tedd Grossman asked Todd Stevens to put the property under my legal name but Todd then wanted $3,000 so I could have the deed and then legally sell my parent's home under the legal advice of Cook County. You see I had moved out of Chicago to Atlanta, Georgia and hired a property manager Don Gelfund to take care of the property for me but when I tried to simply move back to my parent's home the city would not help me and I did not have enough money to give Todd Stephens his fee of $3,000. I advise you not to hire this man for the purpose of drawing up a will. I wanted so badly to move back into my parent's home, rebuild my credit score and then sell it down the road when I could be approved for a bank loan but because of Todd Stephens actions I ended up losing my home and forced to sell it for $113,000 in 2013 and then of course I had to pay back taxes of $15,000. When you are an Executor of a will you are supposed to actually pay the taxes of the property with the funds from the estate.
