Sticks and Stones is my favorite store in Mankato. They carry the best selection of dresses and sweaters, and it's a nice place to buy cards & gifts. Prices are probably higher than most places in Mankato, but they're actually pretty reasonable for the brands they carry. (In general, you can expect to spend $38-$78 on a nice dress that would cost you closer to $100 if you were in a bigger city.) The staff here is awesome - they give great advice and aren't afraid to tell you if something doesn't look quite right; they're helpful without being pushy. The store itself is charming, too, with cute dressing rooms and chandeliers. I'm in my 20s and I'd say the clothing is pretty geared toward my demographic, but my mom always finds cute stuff at S&S, too. They do close by 5 or 6 some nights, so I recommend checking the website for hours.

In case it helps a bit, the shop is located on the crest of the hill on Riverfront just *after* where you turn uphill to go to the headache-inducing Mall. In the front of the shop are marvelous clothes and household goodies, lots to tempt to you! The back of the store is for beaders, a lot for jewelry artists and some for bead embroiderers. I find a lot of what I use for my bead embroidery pieces there, mostly seed bead sizes 16, 11 and 8. She has a good variety of cubes, not so many bugle beads but I keep asking so they will probably show up! She has Czech beads and Japanese beads. There are also some really amazing focal components handmade by a Duluth artist that I have used and are very reasonably priced. Lots and lots of gemstone jewelry components as jewelry and jewelry making are the main focus, and there are lots of classes held there. Sticks and Stones is an amazing resource for beadworkers in southern Minnesota -- definitely check it out!!
