I'm new to Stillwater and was looking to transfer my OB/prenatal care to a doctor locally. Based on reviews I made an appt with Dr.Smith . The first couple prenatal visits were fine and I was happy with my choice. We discussed my birth plan I told her what I was hoping for ( all natural or as natural as possible) this being my first child. She was on board and did not seem concerned that I was interested in natural , no pain meds , no epidural ect ... she was actually encouraging in those first couple appts . Unfortunately problems arose after those visits and continued... Dr Smith and I discussed my possible need to be seen buy another Dr. in the practice for any upcoming appts as I knew my schedule was hectic ( I had already had to cancel one appt due to it ) and needed some Friday appts. She told me this was fine with her . When I tried to schedule the next appt with an available doctor on a Friday the office staff told me I could not do this and that they needed to ask Dr smith first . I told them dr smith and I had already discussed this and she said it was ok . That did not work for them. They instructed me to call back and see what dr smith says after they email her to ask ... I called back the next day and again the same thing ... It amazed me that no one could simply walk down the hall to ask Dr Smith about this or put a note in her desk and get back to me.... Finally someone called me back and said Sorry Dr smith said you guys did talk about that but she did not make a note if it in your chart - I was able to make a Friday appt with another provider so I though things were back on track . The day before the appt the office called to inform me that I could not see the other dr ( dr Evans I believe) because this was a regular OB visit and he already had to many scheduled patients to see , they then told me that the only reason he agreed to see me was because he was told this was an appt for an ACUTE CARE need not a regular OB visit - so they canceled my appt. The next time I saw Dr smith was in the hospital after my water broke ..... It was during this time that Dr Smith questioned me about my birth plan and wanting to go all natural with no iv's no epidural ect ---She started off saying something like "I can't imagine you would want any of these options because you are a nurse and know certain things like an iv would be needed in emergency situations" I said yes obviously in those circumstances I would allow life saving interventions "dr smith said " it's not obvious when I didn't know you were wanting this"... she continued to ask me " to what extent or capicity I practiced as a high risk OB nurse " when I reminded her that we had discussed my birth plan at a prior appt she simply kept going along her line of questioning asking what emergencies I had seen as a nurse .... After this encounter even my hospital nurse Shelly said " I'm sorry for dr smith I don't know why she was like that" .. When it was time for me to deliver Dr Smith arrived and I could tell she was not pleased to be here- her body language was tight and she had a very flat affect while helping me deliver so much so that I asked her if she was ok or tired due to the look on her face - she simply said something like this is just a long night and eventually you will tear -to allow baby to come .... I had my baby boy who was born with breathing / hrt rate complications that required a few days in the nnicu for continued monitoring. On my sons first f/u visit I was surprised that after evaluating him dr smith did not even ask once how I was. not only that but I had to call the on call nurse at the clinic due to complications (I was later admitted back to the hospital for -) when( Laura or Lana ) called back she was yawning so much so I asked her if she was sleeping to which she laughed and said no honey I'm ok... Overall my husband and I are not pleased with the lack of care ,professionalism and poor communication among staff we encountered and are switching practices .

The doctors are phenomenal, but little can be said about the front desk staff.

Stillwater Family Care is ALWAYS busy, and you might wait a little while to see the doctor, but that's because they're the best place in town and everybody wants to use them. Dr. Schreck has always been attentive and helpful and his staff is extremely friendly. He introduced my family to an allergy medication that has changed our lives drastically for the better. Sometimes I get frustrated with how long I have to sit in the exam room and wait, but I know that it's because my doctor is great and he has hundreds of other people that want to see him.
