I am a current resident of Sun Towers, my wife and I moved in on 4/18/2017. It was a week or two before we got our "sea legs" even though the staff bent over backwards to welcome us and show us the ropes. We quickly made some friends and soon were a member the community. I'm writing on Mon. 9/11/17 (that is an ominous date in our country) However in this case, the date is very positive, this is day after Erma hit Florida. Almost all employees were brought in on Sat. and were told to be prepared to spend both Sat. and Sun nights at the facility, staff members who had family at home were encouraged to bring families to Sun Towers. All upper floor residents were evacuated to the first floor, all first floor windows and doors were protected with plywood. The kitchen and wait staff were outstanding as were the management and their staff. Care givers were on duty helping out where ever they were needed, at some point it almost seemed that there were more help then residents on site. Every employee whether management, care givers or service staff acted as if we were doing them a favor by asking for some kind of help. They treated us with courtesy and respect even though dealing with some abusive behavior by some of our residents. We came through the ordeal in tack no major damage, no loss of electricity or air conditioning. Not that I would want to deal with another storm but I feel confident that we would make it through it.

To the staff of Sun Towers, I want to express my gratitude and admiration for your handling of the hurricane. My parents, very observant, kept me posted in real time about all Sun Towers’ emergency protocols. They told me that: · There is a backup generator · All personnel were obligated to stay during the entire time period and could bring their families if desired (my mother was taken by surprise when in the middle of the hurricane an aide came for her laundry) · All first floor windows were boarded up and because the screened lanais could not be, staff came into everyone’s apartment and moved furniture from the lanai into the living room · TJ, the manager, came to check out their first floor windows to make sure they were prepared for any leaking · Bottled water was delivered as preparation · The trash in the dumpsters was compacted with a machine so that no debris would fly out with the winds · Residents on the higher floors, where they couldn’t board the windows, were moved down to the first floor · Many, many mattresses were provided and offices and parts of the dining room were turned into sleeping quarters for staff, their families and those on higher floors · The chef provided meals for the many extra people: full staff, their families, residents and residents’ family members who came to help · Because of renovations which required residents to walk outside to the dining hall, they opened up the construction walls to a hallway so residents would have a safe way to the dining hall · At one point my mother had chest pain and was promptly visited by the nurse who took her vitals which were actually good; luckily she felt better soon · A text message system was set up from Sun Towers management to anyone, residents or their families close and far away, to sign on to get regular updates as to how the community was doing The reason my parents were able to note all these things is that for the first time in their lives they did not have to make all these preparations for themselves. Because they always had, they were very aware of the thoroughness of the preparation and implementation of the emergency plan and were impressed with the continued friendliness and compassion of the staff as they worked and lived here through this crisis. I live in Virginia, even though I have visited Sun Towers many times, and was impressed and reassured that if the hurricane did its worst, my parents would be much safer than the rest of Florida. Please distribute this to anyone and everyone as I do want all to be aware of how Sun Towers is a wonderful place to live in normal times but is an incredibly safe and caring place to live in a crisis. Thank you to everyone, Linda

All of the staff of Sun Towers have my thanks. Each one was most helpful while the residents were located on the first floor. It was much appreciated since many of them had personal problems because of the storm and still came to help us. Thank you all again.

During hurricane Irama your emgerency plan was HORRIBLE! You had elderly sitting in hall ways in wheel chairs, and patio metal chairs, I came in at 5:00pm on September 10 2017 and as off 11 September 2017 at 12:06 am there are still residents sitting in those chairs! You DID NOT have accurate arrgenments for the residents to sleep, not enough personnel to assist your residents. You only had like 22 cots and maybe 10 mattress for estimated 200 residents, I can only imagine how Memory Ward residents were treated. You only served dinner, water, juices until 5:00pm, your residents had been on the first floor from around 2:00pm on 10 September 2017. Your director TJ, is the most disorganized person! Got rude when I stood up for my private client, there were so many residents there who have no one to speak for them, and are treat HORRIBLE! And for the money these residents are paying you for your services you should be ASHAMED of how you treat them in an emgerency situation! If I could figure out out how to post pictures on here I would provide them so people could see the way your company treated your residents during an emgenercy. At 12:40 am the staff finally brought one cookie for residents to snack on ONE cookie are you for real!!! It was confusing and crazy in getting the residents down to the lobby again not enough staff or organization, and now it is 1:00 am on September 11, 2017 and the staff just came to let me know here shortly they will be letting residents return to there rooms, I can only imagine how this is going to go, if bringing them down was a mad house can you imagine taking them up!!! I would never put my parents nor do I recommend it, I do not work for Sun Towers, I am a private paid care taker for a resident here, (I haven been with her for 3 years in Sun Towers) so my opinion is not from an employee of Sun Towers but and outside person who has nothing to gain by my posting of this unorganized facility.
