Museum exhibitions that enrich a sense of place in Idaho through sharing the history of the Wood River Valley, Ketchum, and the Sun Valley ski resort.
n February of 2014, the Community Library Association in Ketchum, Idaho began an exciting new program when it assumed operation of the former Ski and Heritage Museums. The Ketchum / Sun Valley Historical Society worked closely with the Library’s Board of Trustees and administration to transact this change in an effort to strengthen the museum’s presence in the community. The City of Ketchum—from the mayor to council members to Parks and Recreation staff—joined the effort, while the community enthusiastically supported it. This collaborative project presents tremendous opportunities for Sun Valley to share its rich historical traditions with local residents and visitors alike.
Located in the historic Forest Service Park, the museum buildings feature two exhibition spaces and a collections center. Under the library’s direction, the 1933 buildings, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, will showcase exhibits that detail the region’s cultural heritage: from the first inhabitants, to miners and ranchers, to destination skiers, to artists and athletes. Our history is diverse, and we will tell that story through engaging exhibitions and powerful programs.
