Decent library, close to Jefferson for your children to study afterschool, and decent selection.

Quiet, beautiful and unexpected is how i would describe this library. The winter garden was beautiful. I had read about it in a news article about free things to do and it was beautiful. It Only takes about 30 minutes to see. Take the escalators or elevators. The escalators allowed us to look at the whole library.

I'm an architectural nerd and I love historic buildings, so when we went to the Harold Washington Library I automatically got excited. I thought the library was historic because the pediments are classical and the roofs have  allegorical figures. I found out later it was designed in 1987 and built in 1991. They fooled me! Oh well. 
I still love the building and the library is massive!  Nine floors and over 750,000 square feet! 
Just like other public libraries, they have free wifi which is a life saver. I bring my itouch everywhere and depend on free wifi to find historic landmarks and other places to eat. A great place to kill time.
