Sunset City is located about 25 miles from Salt Lake City in northern Davis County. The city encompasses an area of 1.9 miles by .6 miles and has a population of 5,200 residents. Sunset City was incorporated in 1935.
Geographically, the city is located between the Wasatch Mountains on the east-side and by the Great Salt Lake on the west-side. The city borders Hill Air Force Base, Clinton, Clearfield and Roy.
The Sunset City Fire and Rescue began in 1956 as a volunteer fire fighting crew. In 1995, we added rescue as a component of the volunteer duties. Today, 90% of the calls are related to Emergency Medical Services (EMS). We provide primary fire protection to both urban and suburban areas as well as covering several miles of I-15.
The department has 50 volunteers operating 2 fire suppression devices, 1 squad, 2 ambulances, 1 brush truck and a hazmat-rehab trailer. On average, the volunteers respond to about 500 calls per year.
Sunset Fire Department is very proud of our agency and history. As a volunteer department our motto is: “Pride is our Pay.”
