IS THIS THE BEST SUR LA TABLE STORE IN THE USA? We phoned about a hard to find food product recently and Nancy the manager was very helpful and put it under the counter with our name on it till we could get there a few hours later.My wife picked up a few knick-knacks while we were there and looked around at lots of other things.It's a very clean and tidy store and all the staff we spoke to were very helpful.We liked it so much we came back a few days later and we were helped by Michael the knife expert and also lovely Allison.And again we picked up a few items which happened to be on sale....and we bought an economical bread knife thanks to Michael's advice.We think this La Jolla has a very friendly vibe and all the staff try very hard to make the customers feel special.

Had fun took my daughters we made two pies each Charisse was a great instructors would recommend all dads to try a class with there kids

Wow what a blast! I don't usually like to cook but the class given by Chef Cherisse Holbert was just too much fun! She simplified the instructions and broke down the steps, so that even my dish turned out well. Plus there is amazing gadgetry to simplify every task in the kitchen, so that a dine out / delivery girl like myself can become a gourmet chef! I recommend this shop for everyone in San Diego.

I had never been to a cooking class before, and I am so glad that my first one was here at Sur La Table La Jolla! We had a team building event, therefore it was a private party, and it was so much fun! When I first arrived in the store, I noticed right away that this was a special place. So many interesting and beautiful gadgets, cookware, dishes, etc that I would probably fill a whole page just listing about! This store is definitely going to be on my list for when I head out to do my shopping for the holidays and hostess gifts! When I finally made my way to the kitchen in the back of the store, we met with the darling Resident Chef, Gabriel, who introduced us to his staff, got us all signed in, hands washed, aprons donned, and set up with a delicious appetizer of a tomato and cheese tart. We had quite a large group, about 24 people, but Chef Cherisse very masterfully handled our enthusiasm and kept us on track so that we were able to complete two dishes during our time: a lovely Butternut Squash Risotto with Fried Sage Leaves, and a Beef Tenderloin Medallions with Shallot-Cabernet Glaze. Danielle, Katie and Debra worked tirelessly and seamlessly in the background to ensure a delightful experience for us all. While they plated our meals, we had some time to shop in the store, and everyone on the staff was so helpful and friendly. As part of our class, we received a packet of recipes and other helpful info, and a 10% discount coupon to use while we were shopping that night. After we enjoyed our creations, we were treated to some coffee drinks and dessert chocolates, and had some time to socialize while the staff cleaned up for us. Sur La Table offers public cooking classes nearly every day, and also schedules private cooking events for parties of at least 10 participants. I highly recommend this as a great idea for date night, Bachelorette parties, children's birthday parties, Girls' Night Out, corporate team building, or just something fun to do on a free evening!

This week I had the opportunity to attend a cooking class at Sur La Table in La Jolla, and it was both fun and informative. The La Jolla location is just a year old, and the store is quite large and stocked with all manner of wonderful kitchen aids. In the back is a large demonstration kitchen with individual work stations, a demonstration area, and video screens. Unlike most of the classes I have attended in the past, the classes here are participatory, and I believe actually making the dish while I was there increases the chances that I'll do so again. We began the evening with some bread and cheese, and then a tasty goat cheese and roasted tomato tart was served. The resident chef, Gabriel, and the chef for the evening, Cherisse were introduced, and they went over the plans for the evening...a butternut squash risotto and veal medallions with a wine reduction sauce. Our class was large (and maybe a little rowdy) but Cherisse did a wonderful job...first with a demo of the procedures, then walking around to the stations to encourage and advise as we worked our way through the recipes. The atmosphere was lighthearted, fun, and very enjoyable as we cooked and watched the progress of our meal. After the risotto and beef were done, we took a short break while the staff cleaned up the area and plated the meals for us. Meanwhile, we were invited to explore the store and use the 10% discount we were given for the evening. A few minutes later we returned to the kitchen to enjoy the meal we had created, and congratulate ourselves on a job well done. The group was very social and had a wonderful time as we ate and shared cooking experiences. I completely recommend these classes!! I know I'll return for more. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, well prepared, and provided just the right blend of information and opportunities for socializing. They offer all manner of classes from kids parties to classes for beginning and serious, advanced cooks. Go with a friend, or a group of friends for a great learning experience and a fun social outing.
