Surawon Tofu House
"Surawon Tofu House is a Tofu and noodles restaurant in Koreatown, Los Angeles specializing in Korean tofu, delicious noodle dishes and Housemade in-house Organic Tofu. Our house-made tofu is made from organic, non-GMO soybeans. What makes us unique is that we offer tofu made from either the standard yellow soybeans or from black soybeans. Black soybeans have more antioxidants and are more effective in cutting cholesterol than yellow soybeans. Our house-made tofu also contains more soybeans than commercial tofu. In addition, we do not use any emulsifiers or additives. As such, our tofu yields a nuttier and more savory flavor. We hope you enjoy our house-made tofu in all our tofu dishes. Our noodles are all house-made as well."

The service was great, and the food was even better. From the outside, it's not easily noticeable that it's a restaurant. But once inside, the staff are terse but very welcoming. The tables and chairs don't have much flair. It felt like a cafeteria. Every table is close to each other, so it's an intimate dining experience. If you can get past that, the food makes you forget about the sterile like environment. Your taste buds just transport you to another place, a place where bellies are fulfilled and smiles on faces are everywhere. Parking: The parking is behind the restaurant
It brings tears to my eyes as I write this review on the eve of my move out of LA. I’ve probably eaten here over 50 times in the last 10 years and can confidently say this is a top 3 favorite restaurant in SoCal for me. Surawon is not your fancy “pinkies up” type of place. It is the home to the most delicious, authentic and welcoming Korean food that only a Korean mom and grandma with decades of excellence, love, and care can produce. The star is the thick-cut Galbi - smoky, sweet, savory, and incredibly juicy from what can only be premium, highly marbled beef. The other star is the large offering of banchan - each executed perfectly and with a different flavor profile that can balance any meal. Of course the brand is centered on the soondubu, which blends a rich and flavorful broth with generous portion of fresh tofu. The service is truly 5/5. It didn’t matter if the restaurant was full or empty, the ajummas always served you with a smile and made sure your banchans were replenished. After so many meals here, I can go on for a very long time about the great memories I’ve had at Surawon. But I’ll stop and let whoever is reading this make their own memories and hope that when I come back in a few years, this wonderful place is still around, unchanged.
We had a wonderful experience here. Staff was great very attentive made sure we tried and enjoyed everything. The kimchi was amazing. Got the hotstone bibimbap very flavorful with fresh veggies. I really enjoyed it. My friend got the galbi with beef tofu soup great flavor. The staff really made us feel welcomed will definitely return. Worth the drive from pomona. The have parking in the back if it's not too busy.
I’m vegan and the stone pot bibimbap was delicious. It was large and great for the price. I ordered without meat and egg and it had plenty of veggies in it. It was filling! ALSO VERYYYY RECOMMEND TOFU SOUP, I got with vegan veggie broth. So flavorful and spicy and cozy. It is the best tofu soup I’ve probably ever had. Vegetarian options: The menu had indications for vegetarian options
Excellent sundubu including the rarely seen black soy bean tofu. The tofu and banchan all have a good homey taste. The seafood pancake is also a highlight of the menu. Come early as this small restaurant gets busy around meal time. Parking: There is a very small parking lot in the back.
an LA staple. the soondubu and bibimbap are both top tier. Definitely gets busy around peak hours and parking is especially difficult at that time so I'd recommend coming early or being prepared to wait.Food: 5/5
Loved everything we got! The original beef tofu soup and beef bulgogi. So glad bcd was so busy that we go to try this place. Got the combo to share between two people and thought that was enough. Highly recommend!Food: 5/5
I got the tofu black bean and galbi combo. The galbi is thicker than BCD’s but it wasn’t tender. The galbi tastes good, but it also requires a lot of chewing. I honestly prefer BCD for both the tofu soup and galbi. The black bean tofu is interesting. I like the fact that they give multigrain rice. The service is really good and the waitresses are friendly. The environment is super nice because it’s spacious and I don’t feel rushed to eat. Parking: Limited spots but free
Loved all the dishes; I don’t think you can go wrong with any. One standout, the raw crab, is especially amazing. It has a very jelly texture and it tasted so good with its soy sauce. The beef short ribs were good but not as tender as I would like. The glass noodles were quite delicious and bouncy. All the tofu soups we got were delicious. We got Assorted, Beef intestine, mushroom. It was worth it to pay for the soy bean black tofu. The assorted had a good variety. Beef intestine was good but could be an acquired taste for others. The mushroom was good. The service could be better but there was also only 1 waitress serving the entire restaurant so we were understanding.
excellent flavor and portions. I really enjoyed their side dishes so much I asked for thirds and got the stink eye lmao. they're a little busy, with like 2-3 servers for 15-20 tables.
