Pastor Montgomery
Pastor Montgomery, a Wichita native, is the son of the late Deacon Thadies Montgomery and the late Marguerite Ferguson Montgomery. He attended local public schools and the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and Religion from Wichita State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Christian Ministry from Friends University. Pastor Montgomery, a gifted teacher and preacher, was born into the Tabernacle Baptist Church family, and has served as the Senior Pastor since August 27, 1987. The church currently has a membership of over 1500 and is one of the oldest and largest predominantly African American congregations in the state of Kansas. Under his dynamic pastoral leadership, the church has experienced tremendous spiritual growth and has become widely known for its strong Word ministry which provides a foundation for all the ministries to serve the congregation and community.
Pastor Montgomery has served as an adjunct Professor at Tabor College since 1992 and his community involvements and commitments are impressive. He is still actively involved in the community and serves on several boards, commissions and committees. His ministry contributions have been recognized by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Black Women’s Conference, Wichita Branch NAACP, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, the KNOX Center, Wichita Colored Women & Girls Association, W. G. Williams Community Foundation and a host of other organizations. He has traveled internationally and appeared in several television broadcasts. The men most admired by Pastor Montgomery, aside from his father, the late Deacon Thadies Montgomery and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, are the Apostle Paul, the Rev. U. W. Barron (former Pastor of Tabernacle) and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He notes that two of the attributes which they all shared are great faith and obedience unto death.

Go Ye and Make Disciples!
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
Matthew 28: 19-20
