Story

Tabernacle of Praise is a local church body of believers that was organized in October of 1998 with 18 original members in an abandoned building that was formerly an auto parts building. Tabernacle of Praise was founded by Senior Pastor—John S. Pyles, Sr. in 1998 after receiving a visitation and inspiration from God directing him to found and organize what has become one of the fastest growing, contemporary, non-denominational ministries in the city of Houston: Tabernacle of Praise, which is referred to daily by its members as “The TOP”, since its inception along with the help of its original 18 charter members, has gone on to develop numerous ministries whose focus is: ”Affecting a positive change in the lives of people”. Tabernacle exemplified this very spirit when it converted it’s youth building into living quarters to house, clothe and feed 31 displaced New Orleans evacuees during Hurricane Katrina for 45 days. Tabernacle also recently completed a pilot study of TAKS testing preparation by certified instructors with overwhelming student results and parental responses. Tabernacle is presently developing additional community development ministries that are enhancing not only the members of the TOP, but the entire NE region of Houston. Tabernacle of Praise partners with the Houston Food Bank in distributing free food to the community monthly. We also partner with KIPP Academy in education for the NE Region of Houston. Tabernacle of Praise has experienced tremendous growth since it’s inception.



The vision of the TOP was revealed over a period of time as a result of wanting to work in a ministry that took a “wholistic” approach to ministry rather than function in the fashion of a simple “Mom & Pop” grocery store style ministry. Tabernacle was formed with the desire to not be a place where people would just show up for church service and for fellowship and return home without any victories, hope, deliverances or blessings, but instead be inspired, motivated and prosperous. The motivation is to direct all that have the desire, to a place in their lives where they can have their own intimate relationship with God.



We believe that God’s people should be free in their praise and worship as well as receive an inspired word that is applicable to their lives. Biblical truths and principles are used to help nurture God’s people and help them face their everyday needs and concerns. We would like for you to know that The Tabernacle of Praise Church is “A place of Excitement, Enlightenment and Empowerment”.
