A.U.T.H.E.N.T.I.C. I was staying at the Sheraton Times Square hotel and asked the concierge which nearby Chinese restaurant was the best. Without hesitation he said, "Tang." A few blocks later and I'm placing my takeout order of Chicken with Garlic Sauce and brown rice. In almost no time, maybe five minutes, I was handed my food. For dining in, they have a quaint bar and a narrow room with tables positioned left and right. Prices are reasonable, service is fast and friendly, and the food is delicious; mine was nice and spicy. Highly recommend.
Excellent Shanghainese meal near MOMA. I came here with 2 other adults and 2 kids around lunchtime on a weekend and we were greeted and seated right away. In fact, service was excellent throughout. We ordered 3 dishes which were just right with no leftovers. The Drunk Chicken is a MUST! Typically served cold, the Shaoxing wine flavor of its brine really shined through for an extremely tasty chicken. Then the Shanghai-Style Noodles customized with tofu are ANOTHER MUST TRY! The texture and bite of these noods was so satisfying! Then their 8-Jewel Shrimp dish off of their Shanghai Specials menu was chock full of yummy shrimp, tofu, edamame, mushrooms, and more with well-balanced spice. I would order everything again! Let's Tang!!! NOTES/TIPS: **Wheelchair-accessible space and restrooms **Plenty of tables, vast menu. Most entrees come with rice.
Food: The appetizers are fabulous and delicious, it goes without saying that the soup dumpling is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and bbq styled ribs are too amazing I love particularly the Shanghai style meatball. It definitely comes at a way larger portion than I expected. Environment: The interior design is fancy, definitely has the vibe you’d see in old Hollywood movies kinda sorta reminds of that restaurant from the Year of Dragon. There are some calligraphy pieces and other visual art pieces presented, vintage and aesthetic. Service: The waiters are incredible too. Patient and great to talk to if you are in need of suggestions when ordering. I love how I could blurrily hear them speaking in Shanghai dialect somehow lol.
Food is always excellent at Tang Pavilion and there are always Asian people eating herealways a good sign.Food: 4/5
I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes authentic Chinese food. Delicious food, clean environment, patient and friendly waiter.
I hate to do this cause the food is actually good but I found bugs in my delivery. This is just not acceptable and ya’ll should know. Pls see pic. I’m gonna pretend it’s a cricket cause I ate some despite the fact that it’s clearly a cockroach. Dietary restrictions: For people who want to eat bugs.
Nice sitting, tasty fully decorated. The best: friendly, warm, excellent services! The 3 star - we went for second dinner, ordered spinach chicken soup, fry Kong Xin cai - very oily, not how it cooked in Shanghai; yan sui ya - also oily. So the food was not impressed.
I had good experience with this restaurant, may be before COVID 19 outbreak. But now I think that the food taste is worse that previous visit. The pork in wonton and dumpling is no any taste and no meat. Overall taste in each plates is not perfect. Maybe beef stir fried is acceptable but too spicy. "Hope it's better"Food: 2/5
When I arrived to pick up my order, the host was behind the bar. He never greeted me when I walked into the establishment. He saw me waiting but instead took an order from a man who walked right in after me. He then went to kitchen to place the man's order and then pointed at me instead of asking, "how can I help you?''; I stated I was there for pick up, he then pointed again to let me know my order was sitting on the table behind me, near the door. The entire encounter was rude! I always say, you need not how to speak English to have manners or be courteous!
Underwhelming. Old school chinese restaurant like from the 80s. Shanghai cuisine mild bland flavors. The shrimp dumplings in spicey hot oil was not 1 iota spicey. If anything it was a sweet sauce. Dumpling soup with mushroom was exactly that. 1 dumpling and 1 mushroom. I suppose some people love the delicate tender flavors. I found it underwhelming. The soup dumplings had very little soup. The spicey peanuts were a 2 on the spice level out of 10.
