Wow, what an amazing quesodilla. Yummy!!!Food: 5/5
My job takes me all around the Bay area and I eat at a lot of taquerias. I'm writing this mostly as a record for myself but hopefully it'll also help you. The non-edible parts: Located right along a main street with substantial free parking. Favorito had an unassuming external facade with a dated and with decor. The inside doesn't fare much better and reminds me of a repurposed 70's burger joint. All the tables still have scraps of meals past on them. If cleanliness is important to you, knock off a star. Personally, I don't care so off we go to the important things, the food! Chips: They're not free but .75 is reasonable and they give you a fair amount. The chips appear store bought and cold. However, they are thicker than average, lightly salted, and not greasy. I'd buy them again. Salsa: I have a soft spot for salsa bars and this place had some pretty solid options. I grabbed all 4 because why make a decision when you can have them all? Thank you salsa bar! Habanero salsa: spicy and smooth-tasting with a distinct lack of that fruity quality when biting into a habanero. It was good but somewhat flat and like it could use some more salt or tang? Tiny bubbles were forming in the salsa. Leads me to believe that it was in an early stage of fermentation. Not sure if intentional but feels novel and totally a plus in my book. I went back for more. Salsa roja: VERY spicy and I think that I have a decent tolerance for spice. The flavors were bright and rich with chunks of chopped chilies present. One of the best red salsas I've had although I may be giving it more credit because any salsa that makes me sweat gets extra points. I went back twice more, a real winner. Salsa verde: not sure why it didn't have the semi-translucent liquidy-texture I'm typically use to seeing and is instead opaque, somewhat white and creamy. Strong earthy flavor with grassy notes. Actually "grassy" was all I could think of to describe this salsa. Enjoyable but not my jam. I would put it in The middle of the pack of verdes I've had but I'm not crazy about them in general. Very very mild. Salsa fresca: Good. The tomatoes didn't strike me as very fresh but it is November which may play a role. I can taste the onion and herbs but they didn't stand out. Mild. Al pastor super burrito: I always start with the super pastor. Why? I dunno, gotta have a baseline I suppose and I like pork. Slightly above average in size but crazy cheap, at least from my Bay area lens. Overall an excellent value. See my cross-section for visuals on the ingredient ratio. Plenty of meat and beans with less rice than I typically see; no complaints there. They didn't ask what type of beans I wanted and gave me pintos. I would describe them as uninspired. Nothing stood out to me about them, they are beans and fulfill that role admirably. The pastor meat was finely chopped pork. I didn't notice any charring from the grill. The meat was quite fatty and reminded me a bit of bacon. When I are the meat separately, I was unable to notice anything that really stood out about it's flavors. About half an avocado was present along with a healthy portion of chopped tomatoes. The only aqua frescas were strawberry and horchata. No further comment. It was a good burrito overall, largely saved by the excellent salsa. I will definitely be back but will try a different meat and beans, if available.
I do not usually review taquerias since I frequent them often, but my experience here was exceptional. Everything was packed in neat foil for take out, even the whole lime so generous! The chips and salsa and extras are amazing and plentiful. We ordered two burritos, four tacos, and birrira for four adults. The portions are large at low prices, I was amazed! Immaculate and great service too. Perfect for the Easter weekend!
I found this place looking for nachos. I had many people tell me this was the place to go. So I went. I always try carnitas when I go to a Mexican restaurant because if they can't cook those right then they can't cook anything right in my opinion. Let me tell you, they are delicious! I got the shrimp nachos once I looked at the menu and added carnitas to it. I'm not disappointed. The shrimp in my opinion is lacking some flavor, like I would have cooked it in some butter and garlic, but the rest is so yummy. I'm definitely going to be going back to try other dishes!
6 days ago I ordered 2 tortas de Carne Asada and 1 of them was normal... The other one was medium burnt. I've worked in the kitchen so I understand sometimes if your not careful you can burn it. Unfortunately for me... This torta was all the way burnt on both sides of the bread. Wasn't burnt but definetly wasn't taken care of since this torta was burnt on other pieces of bread even if my photo doesn't show it "/ but not too bad
This was our go-to local spot, 2-3 times a month for nearly 2 decades... Covid ended the salsa bar, understandably... But now they charge for the chips that use to come with your order and even though we tip substantially, we are charged for extra salsa. Unfortunately, we will be finding a new spot that treats us as good as we treat them. Service has gone waaaay down hill, new girl is rude to customers & other employees. I miss the guy who worked there forever.
Went in there tonight and one of their friends or another employee was literally sitting at the food bar where they prepare the food, and eating takeout from somewhere else. He was eating his dinner over the food they prepare like it was no big deal! I was grossed out and almost left but I was really hungry and reluctantly ordered anyway. Asked for a super burrito with only rice chicken and avocado. There was one tiny slice of avocado and the grilled chicken was so tough I almost broke my teeth on it and had to throw it out! Yes it's cheap food, but you get what you pay for. Do not throw away your money at this place! The health inspector should shut them down!
My 8-year old likes their beans and rice he is picky. My 11-year old likes their carne asado quesadilla he is not picky. I like their chile verde tacos a lot I am sort a Mexican food aficionado. You can't beat them for the price. Choices for my vegan wife are not impossible, but kind of, meh, and mostly include just ordering without cheese, sour cream, or meat. Price and location are right and food is better than some, but not crave worthy for me. I do like the creamy avo green salsa they have quite a bit though. I will still come back here when killing time for my son's swim practice at Ive's Pool. Parking: Public parking surrounds the building, so parking will never be an issue unless its Apple Blossom parade or something like that. Kid-friendliness: My son and I have eaten here several times. They do have arcade games, but not certain they actually work.
Great tacos & burritos. Huge menu, nice folks, portions are also generous. Don't be put off by the laundromat vibes of the exterior.Food: 5/5
Absolutely amazing!! very authentic, I will come here a lot more often.
