About

Temple Adath Yeshurun is affiliated with The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, and is a USCJ-Ruderman Inclusion Action Community.

Story

Our name means “congregation of the righteous,” and for over a century we have striven to provide our community with the finest in religious, educational, cultural and social programs.

Our congregation was founded in 1867 by a group of young men, most of whom had emigrated from Neustadt, Poland, a town just across the German border. From its meetings in Tabor’s Hall and later Kauffman’s Hall on Mulberry Street, Congregation Adath Yeshurun, as it was known in the late 19th century, built its own synagogue at 75 Mulberry Street (now South State Street) in 1878. In 1922, when a larger structure was completed at South Crouse Avenue and Harrison Street, the congregation was incorporated as Temple Adath Yeshurun. Almost 50 years later, on June 20, 1971, the present spacious Temple dominating the hill on Kimber Road was dedicated. Our building was designed to serve not only the spiritual, educational and social needs of our members, but to provide a gathering place for the people of Central New York as well.

Mission

Temple Adath Yeshurun, an engaging, egalitarian Conservative congregation, provides the education, welcoming atmosphere and community that inspires its members to fulfill the words of Isaiah: “For My House shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” (Isaiah 56:7)

An absolutely wonderful, inclusive, and respectful community. If you're looking to continue the practice of Judaism, are getting "back into" study, or you simply want to learn about what goes on at Synagogue, everyone is welcomed. The Rabbi doesn't shy away from topics that might otherwise be hidden or shoved under the rug in other communities. Help is freely offered to those who may need it and community members are encouraged to understand that all problems can happen even in our own community. The building is absolutely beautiful and great efforts are made to maintain and enhance this. Services that offer lunch are fabulous- there are choices for all- even gluten free members! This is VERY much appreciated!
