Was there last night and had a good time. There was a raffle drawing that was to be at 10:30 pm. Drawing didn’t happen until almost 11pm. and I was told that they were holding it off because they were still making sales. If you say something is supposed to be at a certain time keep your word. It definitely gave the appearance that they were trying to make a few extra bucks on liquor sales.. be it the case or not.

Historic theater near Bishop Arts in Oak Cliff. Lee Harvey Oswald was apprehended here after the JFK assassination for you history buffs. For a while they had a display about Lee Harvey on the wall but I believe it was taken  down in 2016. 

The theater hosts artsy movies and events, has a small concession stand, velvet seats, and a throwback vibe of the Hollywood film heyday. Great old school neon TEXAS sign and marquee. I believe it underwent a restoration in the not too distant  pass but it shows some wear.
 
Limited metered street parking out front and along the streets. The location has improved and there are now more places to dine and drink in the immediate area. Definitely worth a visit and so much more interesting than a generic modern theater.

Good screen, seats, and a very well equipped bar. Not a whole lot else to ask for! They show unique, old, and generally indie movies here  regularly and provide a fitting  environment. Great theatre with a lot of history.

Yes, it is very historic. On November 22, 1963, this is where Lee Harvey Oswald slipped in (without paying) while Dallas Police vehicles, with their sirens blaring, were racing up and down Jefferson Avenue in search of a suspect who had just gunned down Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit several blocks away. Oswald was noticed acting suspiciously, cowering with his back to the police vehicles, by a local shoe store salesman. He saw Oswald slip into the theater without paying. This is how the police knew that there was a possible suspect in the building. When approached by the police while sitting in the theater, Oswald reached for his pistol and there was an immediately skirmish. This is why, when you see photos of Oswald after he had been apprehended, there is a cut over his eye. It is where the officer hit him while they struggled.

I watched my second movie here today and it was so so good! It was called Get Out, the first one was called Endless Poetry. They have the best movies! I'd recommend it to anyone!
