I got my second degree here and although I learned a lot and had some great teachers, it is VERY expensive. I'll be paying it off for a long time. I did end up getting a job but it took 2 years and it was mostly because of connections I had made. I think the school is really for students that are very self motivated. If I was to do it over again, I would go somewhere else.

I graduated with honors a few years ago from this school and I still can't even get an interview with AI on my resume. Not even the headhunters will work with me. One told me The Art Institutes reputation as a diploma mill is the main problem. They accept 98% of their applicants where most good art schools turn away that much. When a company asks them where I went to school, they pass without even giving me a chance to show my work. When I was there, I worked my butt off too. I noticed slacker students, thin content in the classes, and tons of corporate looking people walking around all the time but I didn't put two and two together with for-profit being such a bad thing. I was told if I just work hard and have a good portfolio all will be forgiven in the real world. Well truth be told it's not. Turns out it really dose matter what school you go to. Now I am $100,000 in debt without a good job and had to move back in with my parents to survive.

2004 Graphic Design Graduate. I had a great experience. School had all the appropriate tools and the instructors gave me the guidance needed to be successful. All I can tell you is this school is not for people that are trying out something for fun. This is serious business you need to know what you want in life. Function follows form as they say and you'll learn this very much so in whatever direction you choose. Anybody complaining about how the school is expensive and that they didn't learn much or they blame the school were the weak minded students that barely got through it. The industry that involves these skills will require a creative innovative mind. You got to have a no excuses type of mentality here and if you do then this is the place to fine tune your skills. The experience and your success is what you make of it. It's all yours for the taking.

I left after 2 years. Every semester suddenly new classes were added on, which kept seniors having to come back for more (and take out more loans). They used predatory loan techniques, encouraging us to borrow the max allowed amount. Two of my teachers were amazing and the rest were just out to try and fluff their own egos. My color theory teacher wrote the text book which we had to buy and he made sure the textbook had tear out pages so we couldn't buy a used one...he wouldn't accept photocopied workbook pages, either...they had to be original. The worst was when I tried to transfer to AI San Diego and I was told my credits wouldn't transfer...THAT IS HORRIBLE. Terrible school.
