I had done some reading before deciding on a few brands/types of kayaks that might work well for me. I am not a novice paddler, but I am not an expert either. We had some inexpensive big box store kayaks that were good to splash around with, but they got in the way of any serious work out or excursion more than a few minutes long.  I am a fit 54 year old from years of riding the road on high quality road bicycles, and I know how quality equipment can improve your exercise experience, and make it so much more fun. So can an excellent equipment/gear shop.  I decided to visit Camillus Kayak Shop because they carried Elie kayaks, and because I had driven by the shop many times in the past 19 years, and was attracted to it. I had a great browsing and buying experience. And Kathy, one of the owners, spent time with me, and educated me in the most welcoming and worthwhile manner. Kathy's professionalism and expertise, and the great shop surpassed my expectation. I purchased a great boat and, after she taught me how to  load it onto my Honda Civic, and then happily helped me do it with a simple transport system that they sell,  I transported my kayak  by myself to my camp in the Adirondacks where I have been happily paddling ever since. I plan to return in the near future to purchase a second boat, the one I left behind, so we have two really nice touring kayaks at our camp, one for me and one for any adventuresome friend who is up for a paddle on the lake.

The Kayak shop is what you expect a small business to be; amazing. It has the most wonderful and honest help, owned and run by a husband and wife.They are very knowledgeable when it comes to kayaks, and will be honest with you. I've never purchased a kayak but have  been inside a couple times to speak with the owners on different items. The store has a very homey feel to it. Makes you feel welcomed every time. If in the future I ever need a kayak or have any questions about any other water related transportation questions i'll be sure to come here first.

I personally did not buy a kayak here, but the business owners are very good and honest people. The owners exemplify why it's important to shop small and keep it local.

Housed in an old rambling wooden building at the center of a charming village, a visit to Camillus Kayak Shop is rewarding for the beginning kayaker and expert, alike. Owners Kathy and Kitt are delightful. There’s no hard sell here, just friendly advice gleaned from years of paddling experience. The place is filled with a broad selection of kayaks, from the entry-level Elies to the Tahe Marine touring boats to the light-weight Lincolns. You can lose yourself in here. There is a full range of accessories to peruse, as well. Kayak nirvana.
