The staff were amazing!!! This was my first visit and my first cheese steak. The menu was confusing. If you have never had a cheese steak like me then you might not be familiar with what the regular sandwich comes with. The menu had the "regular" listed but didn't say it came with peppers and onions. Having never had one of these I was not aware of the peppers and onions automatically being included. The menu read as though those were extras you could add. Glad our server was so friendly and explained that the peppers and onions were included. All the sandwiches start exactly the same: meat, cheese, peppers, onions on a roll. If you do not want any of these items in your sandwich you must tell them. The store has pre-designed flavor combos such as pizza and BBQ, as well as a few others, or you can make up your own combo from thier extras menu. I chose the BBQ sandwich without the peppers and ononions. I wanted the cheese but somehow that also got removed. The sandwich was extremely bland and dry. I had ordered fried onion rings and added those to my sandwich which helped a tiny bit. The bun was smooshed like it had been manhandled. There was more sauce on the outside of one end of the bun than there was in the entire sandwich. Even the wrapper had more sauce than the inside of the sandwich. You had a choice of beef or chicken, I chose beef. Again this was my first beefsteak so I didn't know they were going to chop the meat up like a serial killer. It was minced! When you took a bite it was as if you were biting into a sandwich with pre-chewed meat!!! It's one thing to cut or even chop something but it did not need to be minced. The inside of the restaurant was tired looking and not particularly clean. There were a few tables with chairs. It could use better lighting. You had to ask for napkins. It felt like we were on the edge of the Tenderloin instead of on Divisadero close to Japantown. It is extremely unlikely I will ever be having another cheesesteak, but if I do, it will not be at this place.
I got the original cheesesteak and added some mushrooms to it. Absolutely delicious and it hits a spot. Haven't been to this location for years and nothing has changed. Always great sandwiches.Food: 5/5
The food was pretty good, good vibe. Shoutout to my man Michael C though. I can tell he's really giving it his all and is passionate for his job. I own a small bakery in San Mateo, and I know we would be a national chain by now if my employees had half as much love and emotion as he did.Food: 4/5
It is SO good OMG. best food ever. I just went there and got the 5" Hoagie. I have made a terrible mistake, I should have gotten the 10". Worth the money. Delicious peppers. I should work here, so I can eat here daily.Food: 5/5
The people who work at the Cheese Steak Shop are wonderful, helpful and friendly. Alas, the Philly cheese steak is um, greasy, and the components tasted processed. I really wanted to like the food here more.Food: 3/5
I didn’t like it here. The tables are all greasy, they have food leftovers on them we used our own wet wipes to clean our table and the cheesesteak is far from how it should be. The meat is low quality and cut too thin, which is why it is completely dry and savorless no juiciness or moisture whatsoever. The bread is a normal baguette which not appropriate for cheesesteak and it is served just like that, cut in the middle and meat stuffed in it. The cheese is rubber. This place has nothing to do with cheesesteak. Look elsewhere.
I ordered the classic cheese steak and it was pretty amazing. Great bread good quality meat and gooey cheese. The only problem here is that it really takes forever to get your order there were only two people ahead of me and I was there well over 25 minutes waiting for my order.
Ordered 5 cheesesteak sandwiches. 2 original with sweet peppers, hot peppers and grilled onions. 2 without the hot peppers. 1 sizzling pig with grilled onions. Sandwich tasted great. You can taste the cheese and the beef was juicy. The sweet peppers added a nice flavor. The bread made the sandwich unique from other places. It was tastier and easier to eat, more like hotdog style buns. Staff is friendly and you can also eat in, but tables are very limited. It took about 10 minutes to get our order because it's made to order. Your best bet is going in off peak hours or just order online and pickup.
This place has not been good since the change in ownership. Cheesesteak/fries had 0 flavor. Definitely no habits forming. And for $20? Make one at home for half the price and double the flavor.Food: 1/5
Cheesesteak is decent as a Philly area native. However, the hot peppers they gave me on my sandwich still had the stems on them. That was weird. Please be more careful about how you’re chopping your peppers.Recommended dishesClassic Philly, Steak, Philly Cheese, Sandwich
