Perhaps the only theatre in town with any character. Original, not built 2 week ago like most structures in Lauderdale. A jewel- A gem. Love it.

The Gateway Theatre is a well known landmark in Fort Lauderdale. The marquee is clearly visible from Federal Highway/Sunrise Boulevard, and proudly displays the latest films they have on offer. They have maintained their relevance and status as an institution in Fort Lauderdale by only booking quality, engaging, independent films, usually on a limited releases, often booked just after expanding from their initial LA/NY theatrical runs. The Classic Gateway Theatre is often the only theatre in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market booked with the feature until the studio expands it's release or in many cases until the feature is re-released months later after being nominated for an Oscar. As an independently owned and operated theatre they are better able to listen to their customers and book films that their customers are interested in seeing. Instead of operating like the corporate run multiplexes in the area, and just filling up their screens with multiple prints of the latest comic book movie or Hollywood reboot. They care about booking features that their customers are interested in and that they can't find anywhere else.

Since they usually don't play your standard wide releases you will have a much more enjoyable experience as you tend to avoid the crowds of teenagers, families with crying babies, etc, that overrun most multiplexes and take away from the movie going experience.

This is one of the remaining historic theaters in South Florida. The movie selection includes independent and mainstream movies. It is a great place.
