The Clearinghouse is a non-profit organization that provides food, clothing, rent, and utilities if the funds are available, to financially challenged families in our community. The Clearinghouse was established in 1981 in an effort to stop the duplication and abuse of services provided by the churches in the area who where helping families with food. This is what the clearinghouse strives to do even today. We provide a sack lunch daily for families. We provide groceries that will make three to six meals that a family can get one time a month on a regular basis and is bumped to twice a month during a crisis period for a family. We also have a second hand clothing distribution service we provide for families. They are allowed to browse for clothes one time a month to get clothes for each member of their family. In addition, we actually service as our name indicates, as a clearinghouse for benevolent services for the entire county. Often we serve as the hub to compile projects and then facilitate the distribution of those services to the community as a whole. A prime example is the coalition for Children’s Christmas Toys (CCCT) which we spearhead each holiday season.
