Karen Shenker is not a transparent broker. I was told that my offer was accepted for 330 South 3rd Street Apt 15, Brooklyn NY 11211 on 6/19/2017. Took us 1 month to schedule coop board interview on 7/18/2017. She said this HDFC has a reverse process. First they interview then if all goes well, we sign the agreement. I told her I was using Chase Bank. She recommended I used First Republic Bank, which I was happy to oblige. When she found out that I wasn't using Nirmala (her person) as my banker, she demanded that I switched to Nirmala because Nirmala has set up the HDFC account for building 330 and they were both upset. Fine, I went through hoops to change my banker to hers just to please her and wanted the deal to go through smoothly. She finally sent over the contract on 8/9/2017 but it was missing the term sheet. Then on 8/11/2017, she said there is another higher bid and the coop board changed their mind and went with a higher bidder. It was ridiculous because she told me that my offer was accepted back in June and I had everything prepared but was just pending on the Coop board's decision. Now that I was about to sign, she asked for my application to put on hold as they seek for another offer. The other person, whom I believe just started their application in August, miraculously had everything speeded up. Now, I lost the apartment, wasted 4 months time, and also lost $250 on a nonsensical application fee to Veritas Property Management. Karen initially said she will do whatever it takes to help get my money back. Now, she turned her back on me and said my application was null and void so it is unfortunate that I had paid $250. Real estate people can be very deceitful.
