Story

The Dream Away Lodge has been a Berkshire legend for more than 90 years. Rumored to have been a brothel and speakeasy during the great depression, this two hundred year old farmhouse at the edge of October Mountain State Forest is renown for its larger than life founders, Mamma Maria Frasca and her three musical daughters, and a colorful history, rich in music and local mythology.

The pros: Fun atmosphere, great bartender (although terribly overworked), lovely outside space, quirky indoor spades, innovative menu with local food. The Jamaican butternut soup was excellent, and the Asian Kale salad was fabulous. The cons: Far too busy the Saturday night we went there; the room we were in was simply too loud to have a decent conversation. The staff is overworked, and doing their best to keep up; they should hire a few more people. My wife's $26 pork chop may have been local but it was overcooked and dry. My Vietnamese singing chicken was tasty, but for $21 I expected something a bit more than a stir fry.

The Dream Away is classic. it's an institution. should be on the national register of historic places.

Cozy and trendy. I did not stay here, I don't think many people get that opportunity as there may only be a few rooms. I saw a friend play a show here, very cozy and I was not dressed like the others, I'm not a hipster, but no one seemed to care. Nice restaurant and cute front porch and fire pit in the back. Find memories of my time here. Tucked away in the middle of nowhere.

Laid back atmosphere, make sure to make a reservation as it can get busy. I was told the burger was one of the best my boyfriend had. I also enjoyed the curry shrimp and crab salad. There's also live music in the living room and a fire pit outside which we will be coming back to experience.
