Story

We are especially pleased to have been able to establish our restaurant in one of Brighton’s most historically interesting buildings.

The Lockwood Family built the house in 1872. The patriarch of the family, Reverend Joseph Lockwood, was Brighton’s first postmaster. In addition, along with his son Thomas, he is responsible for the selection in 1831 of the town’s name, which was chosen in honour of Brighton, England.

Owners prepare and serve excellent food themselves and the restaurant is beautiful. Our meal included several  vegetables from their own garden. A lovely experience!

This is an excellent restaurant. The owners,  Dieter is an exceptional cook and Kirsten a warm an attentive server. We return over and over for great meals.

I am a well traveled, choosy and captious eater.  The Gables is one of those gems that I only needed to visit once to know that I had found a place to eat casually and comfortably for lunch or elegantly for dinner.  A lot of care goes into the creative European dishes -- the soups, salads, entrees and desserts all have something to share with the senses.  Wow, delicious food; value for money wine list with a reasonable selection.

There are few 'dining rooms' where the decor, the food, the comfort max out a rating, where you feel relaxed as you experience the ultimate in fine cuisine, The Gables is this dining room. Located in Brighton a small community gateway to Presqu'ile Provincial Park, neighbour to Prince Edward County vineyards, Northumberland Hills, numerous art studios and naturally pleasing activities, the restaurant is truly worthy of visit for lunch or dinner. Frequented by locals and visitors and favoured by internationally famous writers, directors, producers, actors and celebrities who visit or own property in the area gives a solid indication of the ambiance provided by the owners. We return as often as we can and have never been disappointed.

Wonderful dining experience. Excellent food, friendly and well-timed service in a beautiful setting. A great discovery, well worth returning for more.
