About

Premiere performing arts venue in East Greenwich, RI.

Story

"Main Streets Theater since 1926"

The Greenwich Odeum is an intimate venue where every seat is excellent. Our theater is situated on a quaint Norman Rockwell-esque Main Street, in a very safe area with a dozen (or more) nearby pre- and post-theater bars and restaurants. The Greenwich Odeum is a volunteer run 501(c)(3) non-profit.

For the last 90 years, The Greenwich Odeum (originally the Greenwich Theatre) has stood proudly as an arts and entertainment venue. Built in 1926, at the end of vaudeville’s heyday, The Greenwich Theatre originally played host to silent films and live performers eventually providing solely film based entertainment to patrons for over six decades.

Due to changing consumer interests, The Greenwich Theatre closed its doors as a single screen movie theater in 1990, re-emerging in 1994 as The Greenwich Odeum, a volunteer run, non-profit performing arts venue. With several seasons of successes and many seasons of closure due to lack of funding, The Greenwich Odeum failed to find the right footing to make the operation sustainable.

A sizable grant from the Champlin Foundations in 2011, along with a considerable amount of determination from community volunteers, provided the necessary boost to allow the Greenwich Odeum to once again provide quality arts and entertainment to the area. Thanks to an invigorated band of volunteers, the generosity of grant giving bodies and the support of its patrons, the theater today finds itself thriving.

We can't wait to meet you at our theater.

Attended the show on Thursday night - Mark Cutler and the Subdudes. Both were great! What an awesome venue. Intimate setting, great performers, so many before event dinner choices. Looking forward to attending many more events.

It honestly is smaller venue than many High School Auditoriums, very small but great for a top name act to perform. The entrance is much nicer than the main auditorium and drinks are PRICEY...!

Great venue. Great shows, not a bad seat in the house and tons of free parking a block and a half away behind the old Armory. Love. Love . Love this place

This is a great small theater to see a show. There are no bad seats.

So good to see live performance space in the suburbs. The Odeum has been lovingly restored and now offers several shows weekly. We've seen Taj Mahal and the Capital Steps here, two very different shows, both near sellouts. I wonder if they can add a few classical chamber music nights. That would be great by me.
