About

Louisville's Irish pub

Story

In Ireland -- where they've raised community and relaxation to an art form-- the pub is the social center. It's a place to meet family, friends, or business associates, catch up on news, debate politics, share a joke. It's a place of character and cadence, rather than impersonal efficiency.

At The Irish Rover, we've tried to recreate this idea of the Irish pub right here in Louisville. We can't build a smoky peat fire in the grate, but our recipes are authentic, the Guinness is shipped from Dublin, and the owner's brogue comes direct from County Clare.

All time favorite restaurant. I get the fish and chips everyone and have yet to find it better anywhere else in Louisville. I love the European pub atmosphere ... it’s pretty close to the real thing. Good selection of uncommon beer and it’s interesting to try some of the odd appetizers. Very good.

Irish Rover is a personal favorite. I visit almost every time I pass through Louisville! The building is charming and unusual - it manages to put the intimate feel of an old pub directly alongside a more open-feeling restaurant space. Vegetarian options here aren't an afterthought and there's enough variety that even the pickiest eaters in my circle of friends find something they love. I love the vegan vindaloo and the grilled veggie sandwich.

Food was delicious. The scotch eggs we're wonderful served with a spicy mustard on the side that made them perfect. We had the Welsh Rabbit, Lamb Stuffed Cabbage and the Cottage Pie. The 157 year old building has wonderful atmosphere and the staff was knowledgeable of their menu. They made great recommendations. We plan on stopping there again on our way thru Town.

This is the best Irish pub we’ve been to, and probably the best Irish pub you’ll go to as well. The food is incredibly delicious and they take care of their customers. My wife and I made the mistake of going the weekend before St Patrick’s Day, at 700PM, and waited for roughly 40 minutes. Waiting for this food is worth it. I had the cottage pie, however, they were “out”, and the owner himself came to our table to let us know, and offered a solution of putting it in a regular bowl instead of a bread bowl, because they were out of bread bowls. It seems like a simple solution, but how many waiters/waitresses would have had me order something else? He offered a solution that allowed me to eat my favorite meal. Classy.

Not sure the negative reviews.... Are these people going to the same place as me? Not in there as much as I once was. Still then best Irish Pub in Louisville. Great food and awesome whiskey selection. The owner is from Ireland and knows his Irish heritage well. This has led to an awesome pub with great food. His bar staff is educated well. Ask them a question and they will have the answer.
