The Knot Pub

About

Not just a Pub, an Atmosphere!!

Story

Originally destined to be a German-style pub in keeping with the local culture, Lunenburg’s seafaring history eventually won out as The Knot has developed a decidedly sea-shanty-esque charm. For hundreds of years, oak was the traditional wood used for boat building in Lunenburg and inspired much of the wooden interior. In fact, most of the oak you’ll see inside onced formed Denyse’s father’s barn in Wentzell’s Lake. Now that’s local building material!

You’ll notice many nautical brass fittings as you look around which mostly came from the Lunenburg Foundry down the street. The copper pennies on the ceiling though are Denyse’s own design. She put every one of them up there herself. Try counting them!

One of the main curiosities as you walk in are the large, horseshoe-shaped seats which look like they would be right at home in the bow of a tall ship. The design was inspired by a bar in Germany and is meant to encourage conversation and conviviality with places to stand or sit – whichever you prefer!

And if at the end of the night you happen to notice a faint outline of a lady gliding by – either you’ve had one too many pints – or you’re lucky enough to have spotted the resident ghost. No one knows exactly who she is but she’s definitely friendly – just like everyone else here!

I was staying at the Lunenburg Inn and Donna, the lady that runs the inn, recommended that we visit the Knot Pub for dinner. Judging by how busy it was the night before we decided to check it out and we were definitely glad that we did. The Knot Pub is just your traditional local pub that focuses on serving reasonably priced and quality food without any pretentiousness. We both ordered a burger and our dishes were both delicious and came out quickly even though it was quite busy inside. Everything was well put together, properly cooked, and no complaints from either my girlfriend or I with the taste or quality of the burgers. We didn't get any beers as we aren't into drinking at all but I did notice that they have quite a large selection of different beers to choose from if that's what you're into. A little dark inside but plenty of indoor seating and I really liked the comfortable and welcoming vibe with the large bar right in the center of the eating area. Prices were quite reasonable and for two burgers it came to something like $24 which is a great price for two people. Overall, I would definitely recommend checking out the Knot Pub if you're looking for some no frills food that's delicious and very reasonably priced.

hidden local gem, was sent by our bnb host and was not disappointed. Food prices are way less than down by the water anywhere and service was outstanding. Ate here 3 nights straight. Food was delicious, Great feel in the room, fabulous experience.

Good service, great ceasar salad; very garlicky- yum! Fish and chips: fish was a little disappointing on two different occasions. Good prices and a friendly, easygoing atmosphere.

Always good here. A Lunenburg staple. Mussel soup is out of this world. Thursday trivia as great fun too.
