The London Plane

About

The London Plane is a cafe, floral shop, market place, private event space, wine shop & community gathering space, located in Seattle's Pioneer Square.

Story

Located on two corners of Occidental Plaza, The London Plane is a one-stop haven for downtown residents, workers and travelers alike. We have two spaces (The London Plane and The Little London Plane).

The large space on the northeast corner is The London Plane, part cafe, part specialty foods grocery, and part floral workshop. You can stop by in the morning for a coffee and a handmade croissant. Come lunchtime, enjoy an array of salads, soups, and plated lunch items. You can also pick up groceries & whole grains, a bundle of mint, a bottle of Italian olive oil, and a loaf of sourdough baked in our wholesale bakery located in the back of the building. If you’re headed to a party, there are flowers, soaps, etc. to share as a hostess or birthday gift.

At the southeast corner of Occidental Plaza is our smaller space, The Little London Plane.

We serve bar snacks and a list of wines and refreshments by the glass. Our shop section showcases beautiful housewares and gifts from local artists and artisans, as well as cook and design books, and a selection of wines by the bottle for takeaway.

This space also hosts private gatherings, whether it be for business meetings or dinner parties. Delicious meals catered by our kitchen team will keep communication and creativity flowing.

We chose London Plane for breakfast one morning to begin a day of visiting sites around the Pioneer Square area of Seattle. It’s located on the corner of a pedestrian mall. It’s a cool, airy place with lots of space and plenty of seating both downstairs and on on open air balcony above (which provided great views of the phenomenal looking baked goods down below.) They serve coffee from nearby Elm Coffee Roasters. We were happy to have a local coffee in our Seattle quest to have a different one every day, but this was not very strong. Not sure if it just wasn’t brewed correctly or if that’s the nature of Elm Coffee Roasters. In any event it was a disappointment. My wife enjoyed the Avocado Toast, Gluten-Free style (which means they serve it on Indian papadums instead of bread). She thought it was a delicious mix of “whatever was in it.” (She couldn’t identify all the veggies). I had toast with honey and hazelnut butter, with an egg and sea salt. This was good and hearty. The hazelnut spread was not sweet and it was topped with hazelnuts. The bread (the non-gluten free variety) was really great. The honey flavor didn’t really come through. They also serve dinner and the menu has lots of healthy and ‘alternative’ items. We’d stop by again to try the amazing looking baked goods which we viewed from our balcony seat, kind of like we were the above counter camera on a cooking show.

Beautiful aesthetics, but it doesn't live up to its looks. The portions are small and rather expensive, and the food comes very slowly. Their menu is imaginative and bright, but the flavors are nothing to write home about. All in all, this place looks good on paper (and on Instagram) but doesn't measure up in person.

Lovely. Not particularly expensive, my spouse and I agreed that this was one of the best meals - we had lunch - we had in our 4 day vacation in Seattle. The food was exceptional but not extravagant, and the interior was incredibly open, with soaring ceilings and glass. Alas, their limited menu meant that our visit was a one time thing, unless we went back for dinner.

We stopped in on a Saturday with table for 4 at lunch. The server and host were friendly and genuine. The food was well prepared. Pastries looked awesome.

Really cute spot! Any instagramers dream! The prices are expensive but that's definitely what you expect from a trendy spot like this. They also sell plants and your can make your own floral arrangement.
