The initial impression was disappointing: at the check in we were offered an upgrade because we were too early for our booked room. The employee made it sound like he was giving us the best deal...charging us only extra $35 instead of $55 for bigger, better, recently updated room. We said yes since he was giving us such "a lovely room"...not so much: bathroom was the size of a closet with shower only. The closet door wouldn't open. There was one creamer in the fridge, hair on the pillow and filthy clump of hair and dirt on the floor ( the stuff one finds at the bottom of a bucket after mopping the floor)
We went back downstairs and declined the "upgrade". The room we booked and waited for till 3 pm checking time was same size, nicer and bigger bathroom and clean.  Our upgrade, in our opinion, was a fraud. From now on, we will inspect our rooms whenever we are offered an upgrade on site, as this looks like a practice hotels use to increase revenue.
Parts of the hotel look run down: elevators, window coverings...place lacks attention to detail.
The beds are very comfy, linens and towels are good quality. Good location. Staff generally nice.

Fantastic location for us to stay during our visit to Halifax. It's right downtown, away from the noise, but ever so close to it. There are some very nice bars  and places to dine close by, and a beautiful garden park across the street. The hotel was nice and the rooms were fairly chic and modern. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The only reason not 5 stars because our check-in was at 3 but we didn't get our room until maybe 5:30 which was a bit of a downer. Aside from that I would stay again. If your here in the summer check out Still Wells beer garden in the evening!

Great location, some of the staff were great while others should consider a career change. They really shouldn't be dealing with the public. Times are changing rapidly and management should try to keep up!

We stayed there 2 nights. The room was fine but what took the edge off the stay was the attempt to charge money for an extra hour for check out and then when leaving, we overheard their attempt to charge a guest money for an early check-in. Living overseas and having traveled the world extensively for the last 30+ years, this is clearly not the norm - anywhere. However, I was assured by the lady at the front desk that she had a full 9 years in the industry and that she had seen this before. Really?! The charging for self-parking was a bit steep as well.

Our room was pitifully small, especially considering what we paid for it. Otherwise staff there were very welcoming. Very good customer service experience.
