The section is governed by the YLS Council which is composed of approximately 35 young lawyers elected for two-year terms from districts across the state.
All Missouri lawyers aged 36 or less or, if older, who have been in practice 5 years or less, are automatically members of YLS. Membership is at no additional cost to your regular MoBar dues.
• YLS’ governing body is the YLS Council, which is composed of approximately 35 young lawyers elected for two-year terms from districts across the state, with officers and executive committee elected from within the ranks of the Council’s membership.
• As part of its mission, YLS sponsors, or helps sponsor, a variety of public service projects, CLEs, and social networking events across Missouri that are geared toward young and recently admitted lawyers. YLS works with a number of other affiliate groups, such as BAMSL and Mound City Bar Association, to co-sponsor events, exchange ideas, and otherwise try to help Missouri young lawyers find meaningful ways to integrate themselves into the legal community and enjoy and excel in their practice.
• YLS provides grants for service projects or activities consistent with YLS’ purpose.
• We produce helpful publications for the public on a variety of legal issues and quarterly e-newsletter for young lawyers that distributed to the e-mail address you have on file with the Missouri Bar.
• We also help sponsor Missouri Bar and United States’ District Court enrollment activities and give awards to deserving lawyers and organizations who show excellence in a variety of ways.
