The grounds were peaceful. It put me completely at ease. I would go there anytime just to walk the through the paths and sculptures. The house was beautiful, but it really was the outside I fell in love with.

Outstanding park-like grounds leading up to a beautifully restored mansion and formal gardens. The hour long, docent led tour (part of the $20pp fee) was outstanding. This large home, has many rooms to view as well as very interesting displays and historic memorabilia about Edith Wharton, her life, her writing career, her friendship with FDR and her extensive war volunteer activities. This visit made me want to read more about her and read her extensive number of novels. I must have experienced her writing in high school reading assignments, but that was clearly wasted on an ungrateful youth!
